After having my steering head bearings replaced I went on a bit of a jaunt to The Mizen . The Mizen is the nearest landmark in Éire to The United States. The lighthouse pictures (Courtecy of Wikipaedia) is approx 13km (8miles) off shore and is also known as "The Teardrop" as it would have been the last sighting of land seen by the ill-fated Titanic passengers (1912) and The Great Irish Famine (1843 - 1846) emigrants. Ar Dheis Dé go raibh a anam go léir.

I’m pretty sure I’ve recently seen this place mentioned in a documentary about a murder years ago in that region. Got me thinking that I’d like to get across to Ireland on the bike, perhaps follow the Atlantic coast for a while. That area around Mizen looks very unspoilt.

Boris Possible this is the murder https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killing_of_Sophie_Toscan_du_Plantier. It has again been in the headlines as a documentary on Netflix and another on Sky. Both have done an in debth study around the murder and also the events since then up to and including the attempts of the French to have the main suspect extradited to France to stand trial. These attempts are still on going. Take into account that this murder happened in December 1996. It does not paint a great picture of The Gardaí (Irish Police) and their practices of the time. Thankfully we have progressed from there.

I spent 1+ hr pounding my skidplate and its bottom mounting bracket back into shape after my St Elmo, Tincup ride yesterday which is posted in Where did your take your Tenere. The pounding today was not near as exciting as yesterday's ride was.

Replaced my notched steering head bearings today. Upper one looked OK, but the lower race had visible notches, several of which I could feel with my fingernail. It was a bit of a bear getting the lower roller bearing off of the steering stem, but a chisel I made in 9th grade metal shop saved the day! Got the bike mostly reassembled but will finish up tomorrow. Steering feels smooth as glass now.

I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide.
Forgot to do my final drive oil with my oil change this weekend. So figured I would do it before the ride to work real quick.

5 min job turned into a call to the boss with a see you tomorrow.... Stripped the fill bolt with zero pressure on it grrrr. Haven't used a ez out in 20 years and it worked on the first try. That was a relief.

Mr IB is a wrong’un. Good series though.

Along the same lines, but true story dramatised, The Serpent is worth a look.

Evil Genius on Netflix is a fascinating watch, with some shocking real footage……..bizarre event.

Received the new Fan Assembly yesterday.

I had to remove the Air-Box to gain access to the Harness connection for the Radiator Fan. It's mounted to the Frame under the Airbox.
I was dreading putting the vent-hose back on the bottom from all the hype I've read about, but it wasn't bad at all.

She's just about rideable again.
Just need to get the Crash-Bars re-mounted.

Replaced the spark plugs. Cleaned the throttle bodies (lightly). I swear I will never trust another dealer again. When I bought the bike I was told it needs nothing. I asked if the dealer had the previous owner's service records and was told they did not, but they inspect the bikes thoroughly. Uh huh, B.S. :( Bike needed new pads, one rear new rotor, air filter was filthy, oil was nasty (diff too), and now when I replaced the plugs the air box breather hose clamp was missing, lol. Oh well. I am becoming more intimate with the bike which is a good thing. Rant over.

I do 99% of my bike, I do not trust even in my shadow, the way you did it, it is the best way to know what your bike confidence is! other way will be based in someone that does not ride the bike. I want to know exactly how my bike is and there is no way to blame someone else.
Love to take care of my toys by me!!

I got my stock seat modified to my tender butt. On the original stock saddle I could ride for about 40 minutes before I had terrible pain at the arse bones. On the modified saddle I got 2.2 hours and by that time all my other limbs and back were aching, but nut much the butt. I guess that's the limit for continous driving for me. The local saddler cut some of the cushion material away from the locations of buttock bones and added elsewhere so I got much more even weight distribution over the whole butt area.
As the weather is becoming cold, the bike will go to garage and the real enjoyment of the new saddle is left for next riding season.
