A little TLC for the summer on mine.

New tires (E-07's), new rear brake disc and pads (disc lasted 52K), oil/filter and final drive oil change. Had Jaxon look at shifter last week due to an off on the left side shoving the shifter up and over, looked good. Finally got the screws out (dremel is a friend) that secures the clutch fluid cap and replaced with new ones (stupid gorilla Yamaha dealer tech).

Put anti-seize on the threads of the screws for the brake and clutch fluid caps and you won't have that problem next time around.

I did the Headlight harness recall today.
I bought my 2013 last Aug and back in May checked with the local dealer to see if it had been done. No record of it so had them bring in the harness.

I was going to just buy the part for $25 because the instruction on the recall say to remove both side panels. I hate other people working on my stuff and with the Altrider crashers I didn't want them saying extra time was needed because of them even thought we know removal is not required. Plus the hassle of bringing the bike to the dealer etc, etc.

Went in to buy the part last week and the service guy said I could have the part for free, just return the old harness. They need to send it back to Yamaha as part of the recall.

Don't know why they say to remove the left side panels because that isn't needed. Listening to Motopod, drinking coffee and taking pics it only took an hour.

Returned the old harness in the afternoon. I am sure the dealer is going to bill Yamaha for a mechanics time doing the recall, but I don't care. Didn't cost me a dime and didn't have to let someone else touch my bike.

Old harness had a bit of discolouration on the wires at the headlight connection but very little. Probably would have been fine, but the new harness wires were larger for the headlight connections.

Don't recall that the harness recall extended past the first '12s that came in...

There is a site I used to search my vin and if Remember correctly it affected bikes made into the spring(apr-may) of 2013. Serial numbers affected are listed in the following doc.

https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2014/RCRIT-14V044-0945.pdf

I had the dealer double check and they confirmed mine was one of them.

Bought my 13 used from a Yamaha dealer, it was priced very reasonably on consignment, when one of my locks fell apart and fell out on the road somewhere I took the bikes serial number to my local Yamaha dealer and found out there was a headlight wiring recall that had not been done , so they ordered the upgraded harness and I rode it in and they installed it while I waited. The lock I had to buy a new lock then took it to a locksmith that made it match all my other locks for $5. Took him about 5 minutes.

2017 S10 ES purchased slightly used in Apr 2018.

My first post. Relatively new to this forum after moving over from the FZ1OA. This one is almost as good as the FZ1OA forum. It is also 11yrs younger, and well on the way to being just as good. ::008::

Loving the S10, but do have the dreaded switch bounce/cruise control issue. I'll post to that thread once I get around to dinking with it.

Mods to date:
- Hepco & Becker engine guard + skid plate + alternator cover
- Alt-Rider U-joint cover
- Yamaha milk crate on the tail
- Givi quick release pannier rack + Nelson Rigg softbags (yes, I'm a bit cheap)
- Super awesome blue leds so cagers see me ::019::
- LED side-shooter from Amazon + custom install

Still have to install Rox 2" risers

Been about a year so I bled my brakes, front and rear. Did my clutch (again) since it's been fussy at times. The big takeaway was my new pneumatic brake bleeder -- why haven't I bought one of those until now!

Made quick, clean work of it. Also cleaned and lubed all the levers and shifter pivot -- felt like a new bike this morning! Clutch lever was especially dry -- hoping that helps cure some of the funky lever action where it's been soft feeling in the morning.

I still think Speed-Bleeders are easier though!

Added fixing points for straps to the oem panniers.
Will be used to carry sleeping bags and sleeping pads.
I'll probably add some to the oem top box as well.

Did most of the Smoky Mountain 500 with some friends. What an amazing route (despite several torrential downpours that always hit us when we were deep in the woods and downed a few trees). And the fat lady is a joy to ride on loose gravel, not so much on slippery mud though. This was good practice for my Summer trip to Colorado.

Had time to today to mount my fuse block. I wired in my GPS and Radar detector. Gosh, so much easier than it was on my FJR's. ::026::

I put my 595 GPS on a Ram mount in the center of the handle bars, I usually have it near the right or left grip, I thinking by being in the center I'll pull over to navigate/play with rather than do it while riding...a bad habit I need to break. ::010::

The Redline Radar is temporary velcro-ed on the brake reservoir. I'm waiting on a 1/2 base mount with a 1/2 ball (Adaptiv-Tech mount) to mount it on the windshield cross bar.
A cool option added to this detector is a loud beeper with an on off switch. Wearing earplugs when I ride really helps. I like the beeper better than a visual alert.

Extra lighting may be the next addition and it looks like a seat, the stock one is a real butt burner. ::007::

Replaced rear Mitas E-07 Dakar. New one (date code 17/17) appears to have a narrower center ridge. Balance was way off though. Finally broke the beads and rotated it 180*. Then it balanced with 3/4 oz. Old one only lasted 7800 mi.

I have a brand new set of Dakar’s waiting in the garage to be installed just before the Tuktoyaktuk trip in August, it’s disappointing to hear you only got 7,800 miles on yours, seems like most folks claim to get 10-12,000 on a set, sure hope mine last 10,000 miles.

I don't know if it's too much tarmac at high 70's, Sport mode riding, or sometimes turning traction control off on gravel. I do run at about 40 psi in the rear. I may try going easier on this one. Front seems to be wearing pretty well. I did buy a bigger spoon and a set of rim protectors to ease installation.

So the tire on left is at 7,800 miles? If so I see why many get less miles than me. I would be riding on that one for much longer.

Yes one on left. About .5 mm to wear bars and squared badly. I'll keep it as a emergency spare. New one leans into corners much smoother. I would like to see a picture of one worn to the limits. I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Had a new Shinko 705 mounted. While that was being done, I pulled the pumpkin and checked the final drive (14K). Still had quite a bit of lube on the splines and the shaft was clean. Cleaned, lubed and done for awhile. Cleaned the rear caliper assembly. The pads will need replacing at the next oil change.
