Here is another possibility :'( maybe people are starting them for a short duration, under which it is on cold start enrichment and they are shutting it down to come back and restart it later. This is a HUGE problem with four stroke snowmobiles and watercraft (PWC).
:D :D :D :D :D
Haven't been around here long, huh? That is exactly what I told people on my first post to the hard starting thread. (go ahead and do a search) It is the most common reason. The other has been people typically working on the bike with the kill switch in the run position, cycling the key while checking things out. After sitting a day or two, hard start sometimes occurs.

I have no reason to doubt you. I'm sure you know more about EFI systems than I do. I'm also sure I have more direct experience with owning, operating and riding late model EFI Yamaha motorcycles than you do. I've had the hard start issue a few times on both the FJR and the Super Ten. I do know why it occurs in 99% of cases.

I bet...? What you said above still holds true, you do not know the cause of this as you have no empirical evidence:

Autoteach, all I'm telling you is that the hard starts are due to flooding. This is not debatable, it's fact. Why that is occurring, is still open for discussion.

Your suggestion serves no purpose, as poor priming isn't the problem.

Sorry for trying to discuss the item at hand. I will leave you to your ill starting beast, and will enjoy my easily cranked and started one.

Getting ready for a 2-3 day trip.
- Cleaned the body and windshield
- Added the Fenda Extenda

In the near future
- OEM heated grips
- HB skid plate
- Extended hand guards

i know guys have ripped on the OEM heated grips, but they pack some serious heat on high. I think I may extend the handguards on mine as well...I even contemplated buying another set so I could mod them just for cold. Where you tripping it to, Tomatocity?

A friend is riding up from SoCal. Here is something I threw together http://goo.gl/maps/8TdMN http://goo.gl/maps/FiLPS to check travel time. Since then we have decided to eat at Alice's for Monday dinner then off to Half Moon Bay for a night over. Tom needs to be home by Tuesday night. I will spend Tuesday night in Morro Bay or Paso Robles. Wednesday http://goo.gl/maps/4ruzG might be more than I can ride so I might stop early. Soda Lake Road is 50% dirt and gravel and a beautiful ride. Cerro Noroeste Road is like a race track on a ridge. If the traffic is good most of these roads will be a hand full of fun. Thursday might be Nacimiento-Fergusson Road and I don't know what else.

You asked :D

Reinstalled my original K60 rear. I had pulled that one off back in June in preparation for a trip. That's when I installed a brand new K60 that I've been running until today. When I pulled this trip K60 off the bike it had 8,397 miles on it. It still had another 1.5mm until it hit the wear bars, but it's been getting pretty squirmy in the last few hundred miles. I knew I could switch it over to the original with only 3,800 on it.

I'm extremely pleased with the K60 tire life and performance. The rear has done as well or better than any other tire I've tried on my big adventure bikes. Never had any traction issues until I got to about 1.5mm above above the wear bars. The front is ridiculous. It currently has over 12K on it and looks only half worn. Never had a front make it past 12.

On Sunday I rode my blue Tenere on to an elevator and and took it up to a mini storage place until Sandy passed. I like this RV lifestyle right now, but some times not having a garage is a pain :) I had a bit of a wrestling match with the new seat concepts replacement foam, but it's on ther. Hopefully will get to put some miles on it this weekend. Will install GPS mount this weekend as well.

Fitted 2" rox risers to get the bars pulled further back and to counter the additional bar height this created swapped the bars for Pro Taper Carmichael Evo bars. Now I can get the bars back where I want them and it looks cool too. Needed to use KTM Duke bar ends to refit the OEM handgards as the Yam ones dont work with protapers. Also had to nibble the fixing locator pin for the switchgear as pro tapers dont have holes and I like to be able to rotate stuff like that to get in the position I want not what the factory dictate.

Fitted up the OEM wind deflectors. They don't seem to be all that solid in the way they mount but the rubber "nuts" seem to work ok onm the screen. Now with the Madstad bracket and the deflectors I hope I have killled the buffeting.

It is starting to get too hot to ride now though, so I may not get too many long rides in, untill I move back to the cooler climate at xmas of course!

I finished installing a Powerlet outlet on the left upper edge of the fairing near the instrument cluster and made a mount for a throttle lock. Next up is to replace the stock windshield with a sport/tour VStream shield. Although the stock shield with the Madstad bracket and deflectors works well with no buffeting, I want a bit more noise level reduction and protection during the winter months. I'll probably go back to the stock shield during the summer.

Did a little mod to the clutch leaver. I run the motocross style grips, they are not as long as the stock units. This caused my pinkie to get caught up on the ball on the end.. So cut that off and did a little more massaging on the leaver.. Always amazes me how just a little change makes a bike (comfort & control) so much better...

I wanted to pass along some photos of my front K60 with 10K + miles. But I wanted to show how well the sides where holding up to hard cornering. Still going strong and confident control..

Rode to work in 45F and home in 72F. Can't complain about that for November 1 in Colorado.
