What is a high mileage for a Super Tenere?

One of the auxiliary bulbs for headlight has recently blown but haven’t got round to removing headlight to change it yet.
Just a thought, but using LED's as a replacement will likely never find you fiddling with those things again. Never had an LED failure on an S10.

Update, almost 2 years later than my first post at about 70K miles. I’ve now got 83,645 miles on the bike and have had my first actual repair - replaced head set bearings due to them developing center notch. Still no oil use between 5000+ mile oil changes. Just completed a major service, valves, oil & filter, final drive lube, throttle body sync, and brake fluid flush and bleed. Still runs like a dream.

I purchased the LEDs recommended on this site and went through 4 of them then switched back to the cheap-o original ones.
I'm convinced the originals put more light out there way down the road anyway. they just don't look as cool.

I forgot about those aux lights...I actually did have one of those burn out back in March. I'm glad I had a service manual; it was kind of a head scratcher to figure out how to get to them. I did get smart and replace both of them while I was doing the job; if they're anything like the headlights, I can pretty much count on the other one blowing right after I change the blown one. I replaced the aux light bulbs with
Sylvania LongLife 2825 bulbs.

That's interesting. My experience has been the opposite. The lamps I use have had no issues in about 75k mi. What brand had the failures? I bought a packet of ten cheap-o's from either amazon or ebay years ago and never had a tick, and in my estimation cast several times the light of incandescents not to mention their intense whiteness. Still have the balance of the packet if you'd like to try a couple.

These guys area a breed apart. I love to ride, and I suppose I ride more than many, but Steiner put 500,000 miles on his bike in only five years. I've had the S10 for seven, and I'm still 14,000 miles shy of just the first 100,000. I can't imagine cranking out 100,000 miles of riding in a year. Hats off to the Long Riders!

Wow, four times? Were all the leaks from the same point? I'm at 86,000 now and haven't had any final drive issues.

I zip tied all my spokes together at the crossovers back when I first got the bike, just to avoid that problem you ran into.
Three of the four leaks were on the drive gear side (wheel side), one was where the driveshaft enters the pumpkin. I had the coupling gear replaced after the driveshaft leak.

Since you haven't had any FD issues I'm curious: Do you do much riding on gravel roads and trails?

Unfortunately I learned about the zip tie trick after my wheel issue. My spokes are all zip tied now.

Commuting daily on a 2013 with a tad under 90k - Had only two "issues" that could be prevented/delayed with proper maintenance:
1) Poor running condition surfaced twice due to corrosion in spark plug area. Fixed by new plugs, cleaned coils, silicone grease. (Caused by road-salt in winter)
2) Notch developing in headset bearing. I'll use this opportunity to have front forks rebuilt.
I once created a problem myself by using a lock cylinder lubricant in the ignition which contained graphite. This caused an electrical/ignition issue and codes. Flushed it out with WD40 and ACF 50, fixed.
Somehow, I believe I'm on the original front brake pads. WTF?
Valves - Had them checked twice, needed adjustment both times.
Oil - Blackstone Lab analysis recently came back as excellent. I experience little to no loss/burn. I do get quite a bit in the airbox from sustained higher speeds.
In summary, I absolutely love the bike, it's performance, reliability, and comfort. Anything much faster, I'd get in trouble with the law.
Having said that, my next bike will probably be an MT-09SP....but I'll always have my S10

I would imagine that rear brake wear on a flashed bike is greater than that of an unflashed bike. I'm over 20k miles on my rear pads, with plenty of pad still left. Of course, I love to use all that mean ol' nasty, unwanted engine braking.

I just blew past 90,000 miles on a trip to the Claw of the Dragon up in Virginia late last month. When I went to get my bike inspected this week, they found that the license plate light had burned out. So I have to add that to the list of things that have failed on the bike. That list consists of "several headlight bulbs, an auxiliary headlight bulb, a license plate light bulb, and a wheel bearing. I had the swingarm off this week and all the bearings still look and feel top notch.

The list of wear items is considerably longer: 11 front tires, 19 rear tires, 20 spark plugs, 21 oil filters, 2 rear rotors, etc.......

I can't believe that 100,000 miles on this bike is right around the corner.

i am over 96k now. Just rode from colorado to western NY- about 3500 mile round trip. I did front wheel bearings before i left, previous owner had thrown some chineseum ones in, i put in a set of japanese made ones. had the swingarm off over the winter, everything looking good in there, cleaned it up and greased it. Valves have been ignored since 60k or so. I'll probably tear into that over the winter.

I see no reason this bike won't hit 200k unless i hit something with it!

this is a 2012 that's had a mix of tender loving care and long ass trip abuse. it's not just a commuter and it's rarely clean.

my 2016 had 94000 km on it at end of aug. Unfortunately we ate a deer on a wknd ride and slid down the hwy. ...geez. Bike was totalled and we had bruises and scrapes... our riding gear did its job thankfully. Only one bulb and fork seal replaced to that point. My mileage is also split with 3 other rides. Replaced it a wk later with another 2016 with only 20000 km...new!!! Even in anniversary yellow...love it. Rode it from Saskatchewan to Arizona at end of sept, winter bike down there for winter. Now home up north...digging out of snow and sledding. Head south this wknd and bike ride time again...yes!!!!

I don't care that this has been posted before and is in KM not miles. This is the thread for noobs wondering how many miles these bikes can go.
fwiw - eemsreno has TWO Teneres and this older one is still being ridden.
