And another version of, let’s attack the GS.

Quite odd really how a thread on what people don’t like about their Super Tenere, has turned into some obsessing over BMW again.
Nonsense. The thread asked the question about the S10, not how superior your current motorcycle is to it. It's not the GS that's getting attacked, it's the 'tude.

Bonus would be more power. The AF1 ECU flash really woke my bike up in that respect, so it'd be nice if it could have come that way from the mothership.
Absolutely agree! Got mine done by 2Wheel Dynoworks. Bike is undoubtedly, smoother, faster and safer (in my most humble opinion). Seems like Yamaha missed the mark there big time.

MY S10 has 40,000 absolutely wonderful miles! It's been to the Tip of Baja and up to Canada! My only complaint would be not being about to turn off the Traction Control on the Fly. In Baja we came across sand sections on the Hwy and it was tough with full Traction Control. ABS never bother me off road! She is a wonderful Bike! She now has a T7 little sister!

Maybe I missed it…. Did no one mention range? My only real complaint is having to stop for gas every 200 miles! The range was an issue in some parts of British Columbia, Alaska and even Baja. Of course I carry extra fuel canisters but it’s a hassle to use.

I hear ya Lol ;) ...but whenever you're in San Antonio or the Hill Country area, feel free to reach out for a no obligation comparison ride :D
@Xclimation is always telling me that. He's up here in my neck of the woods too. But, I love the throttle; wouldn't change a thing.

Wow!! That's some bad mileage. . . . not normal bad mileage. I fill up at 200+/- miles, just 'cuz. The last tank took 4.7gal @ 203 miles. Yes my dash/gauge was flashing, and had switched to the "low fuel" screen. She can do high speed, but that's not where she likes to be. I'm averaging 43.4 indicated, and 41.9 calculated. And that's city/highway, with the occasional triple digit. She'll get 60mpg @ 60mph.

Yes, it is funny how you can ask a question or opinion and a thread can take on a life of its own with the discussion shooting off at a tangent. I intended this thread to be about S10 owners discussing which particular aspect of their bike they didn’t like. It evolves into a pi$$ing contest about BMW R1200GS vs S10 and my dad is bigger than your dad. I suggest if that is how some people feel, then start their very own thread dedicated to tell us how good the GS really is.

As a comment regarding the range of use of the fuel tank, I can add that of the known GS owners that I have, the range is taken as an “advantage” in the GSADV, but since the trips are not always long, many of GSADV owners that I know “complain” about having to “permanently” carry that “huge” tank of fuel, even for a few-mile Sunday outing. Several believe that the GS is "today and for them”a better option over the GSA, and they prefer to load an additional fuel can when they really need it, and not loading an extremely large and wide tank "permanently"

My two biggest complaints are the ergonomics and low rpm engine management. I have lots of things that I feel could be improved on but hey every bike has that stuff. I just don't fit this bike like I want to. Not a whole lot that can be done to make it right for me. It isn't bad at all but not where I would like to sit and feel when riding. Also from idle to 2500 rpm this is with out a doubt the worst running bike i have ever owned. Funny thing is if the bike is moving I have changed some things to make that a lot better and actually it isn't too bad now but stopping and starting it is so inconsistent with the way it runs even riding around those issues with the way this engine operates is hard. Like anything some are better than others I am sure. I have thought all along over the years owning this machine I would love to ride one with 180 degree crank pins. I think that would be a fun motor.

And it was rockin' along fine for 41 posts. Then, the non-Tenere owner shows up and talks shit. You're right, if you want to brag on your Beemer, go to a Beemer forum.

it is fascinating actually....the way some beemers owners need to ascertain that they are the best...seems like a needed validation from third parties...if they bought it for real adventure, they would be sharing recommended tracks, stories about great trips and how they accept diversity...anyhow, back to S10!

Sounds like you’re the perfect customer for an ECU re-flash. It (at least the one from Anthony) completely sorts the low speed behavior and running issues. I can actually ride around smoothly in 1st gear, sport mode now.

What if we shake this thread up a bit and limit our dislikes to just ONE dislike? I'll go first :D

#6 on my list was ALMOST my final choice (disliking the windscreen adjustment) but if I could only fix one dislike, it would be...

The stock fueling/ECU programming.

Why?? Because flashing it made me (literally) keep the bike. If I didn't have the Super Tenere, I wouldn't be enjoying the awesome company here ;) The testimony on this forum answered my "This can't be right ...there's GOTTA be more to sort out here" question. Lol! Having ridden all the popular & current big bore ADVs out there right now that have throttle by wire, I knew the S10 more area for fueling refinement. Fwiw, those other ADVs ridden include the Africa Twin, VStrom 1050 XT, Super Adventure 1290 R, Multistrada V4, Tiger 1200, 1200GS, 1250 GSA and from a few years ago, the VFR 1200X.

@Sierra1, sir, I state the aforementioned with all due respect to your (and anyone else's) preference for the performance of the stock ECU ;):D

Who's next if you'd like?...
