I still ride my 3rd gen Versys 650 on road and track. I can definitely feel the 100+ lb difference between it and the S10. Lol! :D Agree though, that I don't think it's top heavy. I feel Yamaha did a decent job there. It's just HEAVY overall! LMBO! It's the only bike I put gloves on to move around in the garage juuuuust in case ;) By large ADV comparison, the Tiger 1200 definitely felt top heavy to me. Maybe the Multistrada V4 after that.
Yes heavy absolutely but I never felt it was top heavy indeed

Every bike I have ever owned there were things I did not like or changed if I could.. I personally feel that is one of the things I enjoy of riding different bikes and adjusting me to the bike if I cannot change it. I don’t think the bike is top heavy for the size of the bike. Auto turn off turn signals is just going back to old school and me adapting to the bike, not a big deal. Laced wheels I like, seat slanting forward, I corrected etc, etc, etc
overall the S10 is a phenomenal ride for what you can do with it.

To me it looks like the tree came down as the rider was riding and not so much riding into it.
I have actually heard of this happening on 2 occasions where a tree came down onto a car while driving.
Kinda like when a deer or in my area a moose jumps out in front of you while riding, it's not good.
true. no sings of braking in the gravel. ouch, thats just bad luck

I could think of some improvements but honestly there isn't anything that i don't like about my S10.

Just read the link that You posted for 2 Wheel Dynoworks. For the stock exhaust, it says EXUP valve disabled? That is the first reference that I have seen or heard saying that the S10 has an EXUP valve. I thought that the the S10 never had an EXUP valve?
To my knowledge, the S10 does not have this. I've never seen one on mine. Lol. I'm guessing they have that item listed generically. Either way, the magic that Nels performed on the ECU made me comit to a long term relationship with this awesome(er) bike ;)

Until it runs out of warranty.
last week there was someone riding a 1250 GS in the mountains light off-road, he came from Spain I think, then his suspension went suddently banana....with 40.000km only but then he warranty is useless because he has to take it to the dealer...so how to you take a bike with broken suspension from one country to another to get it fixed in the dealer? either impossible to very costly proposition: so he had to replace the suspension locally and in this case the warranty was useless...bottom line: sometimes even if the warranty does not run out, the GS would make you sure to run out of money/patience/planned vacation before the end of the warranty...

I met a french rider in the Atlas mountains and he was riding an African Twin: he told me for the serious riding he takes the AT, for routing in French riviera he takes his GS but he drives it like a queen...

He should have called BMW corporate and explained his situation. Maybe they would have tried to accommodate him to some extent or maybe fully?

The side stand, WTH was Yamaha thinking.
Mine fell over on its side yesterday in my shop. I bumped into it on the stand side and over it went onto concrete floor with a bang. Thank goodness it just missed the corner of my table saw, there would had been some expensive damage to the bike. I couldn't believe my eyes that the bike is so unstable when on its side stand.
BTW, there was zero damage to the bike or related parts, thanks to the crash bars.

On its side stand, if the front wheel is pointed to the right the bike stands up more and it takes little effort to push it over, especially if you have weight in the pannier.
If its pointed to the left its ok.
The stand should had been made longer and at an increased angle to the bike so it has a farther reach. This is a tall motorcycle with a high center of gravity, try to knock over a HD, it take real effort to do it in comparison.

I've never had a warranty issue and only one quick recall (front brake switch), so maintenance costs have been minimal. But this constant need for gas and tires. What was Yamaha thinking?

The side stand definitely could use improvement, mine has never actually fell over but I constantly need to be very careful about parking even at home in my own garage . Side stand on my Goldwing very seldom has parking problems.

Yes I'm too aware of the fact parking has always been an issue with this bike, unless it is a flat solid surface your constantly repositioning till you find the sweet spot. I have heard of stories of riders going in for a coffee and the bike falling over. I would hate to be the one responsible for a domino effect in a line up...LOL....don't park near the Tenere,
