Bought a brand new 2016 and rode ~700 miles so far, I can't wait to take it to Santa Cruz mountains again and again.

Now that a helibar was added and the seat was made level, I should be able to ride 400 miles a day.
What do you mean by the seat was made level?

You SHOULD be able to search "seat mod", and find the link; I tried it, but could not find it. It has to do with using shorter rubber bumpers at the back of the seat pan, on the bottom. I lowers the rear of the seat, which levels it out. I did it to mine, and there was a difference. Get Checkswrecks to point you in the right direction; I'm not very "search savy".

I have owned this bike for 7 years since new and have had a great time riding 33k miles. The weakness for me is the weight is a bit too much, with a custom seat, makes the height at 34". This bike has good electronics, but I think the throttle control is a bit rough in low idle in sport mode. This bike is stock when it comes to being flashed. It offers plenty of power, smooth shifting, and reasonable gas mileage. I would say it's about what I expected.

Get it flashed. It makes a good bike better. You will wish you had done it a long time ago.

You say flashed - is there a specific ECU flash that is being used? Adding a power commander? Just picked up my bike. Awesome, but I did notice the twitchy throttle in sport mode. Not like I would use it when cruising around the parking lot though ;-)

Contact Anthony (https://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?members/avc8130.1579/). Private person who does a flash for a great price. And a reputation that is nothing short of great. He has several different flashes, and will talk to you on what would work best for what you want.

I've had my 2015 S10 for two years. I am 6'4" with 36" inseam and bought it mainly for the ergonomics and legroom. Rides mostly on pavement and it's a great bike for my needs. Excellent tourer.
I have two concerns about it though.
1) Stock seat is too soft and becomes uncomfortable after an hour or so. Only aftermarket seat available in Sweden is Touratech which is expensive. Ordering from US adds freight and another 30 % in customs an VAT.
2) The bike is a little on the heavy side. Good when touring but tricky in low speed and not that funny on the twisty roads.
Considering a Tracer 900 GT to solve nr. 2. But that will create other problems for me...
Tough decision ;)

Might want to check your suspension settings; or tires and pressure. I have been amazed at how well the Tenere ANNIHILATES curves. And being able to use just the back brake in slow maneuvers, and the upright seating position, makes it better than most. I love the FJR, but THAT is a heavy steering bike at low speeds. Of course this all just my opinion.

Have you tried a Bead Rider for the seat? Throw a sheepskin over it during winter and yer set! The AirHawk is another low-cost comfort for your backside.

Handling is too subjective to diagnose but I have found the Tenere to be very easy to toss around tight, twisty pavement. This bike is easier to steer under throttle so get braking done with, tip in and throttle out. And use the wide bars for leverage in rapid right-lefts. Suspension and tires could be suboptimal... check those out and adjust if necessary. The FJ might feel a little cramped after being on the 1200 but it’s lighter and has that triple!

It does leave a considerable gap between the front of the seat and the tank but that doesn't bother me.

Bonjour!

I have now ridden 200,000km (160,000 miles) on Super Ténéré after riding 27 years on BMW GSs (1985-2012)!

I did like all of my previous bikes through the years, still very satisfy with my ST and very impress with its reliability, low maintenance cost and versatility including riding 2up.

I am usually more concerns with my destinations than what I am riding but I have no plan to switch adventure bike at this time.

All the best!!

Cheers!

I had to undo the seat mod in the video above because the rear clip of the seat kept coming undone when I sat up towards the tank.

Good day

Sorry ....wrong topic....but to answer your question quickly... in northern Quebec as per some other amazing places....you don`t need a camp ground...wide open space......you can camp pretty much everywhere.......always bring a small survival kit !!!!

Loving my Tenere more and more with every new mile. Added the Helibar risers and performed the seat mod this weekend and it is now better than ever. For the seat mod , I simply cut down the existing rear rubber bumpers with my bandsaw and reinstalled. Took all of 15 minutes.
