Make sure the option "Use HTTP 1.1" is checked and the option "Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections" is checked.

Verified all notebooks, and both options are checked X on all of them.
Sorry mate, I missed the nslookup stuff. So am I correct in assuming you are flip flopping between multiple IP adresses.

I'l see what the response is from this end from your dns server.

May have to write a little script eh? ;D

Ok I just had another look at that and your DNS response comes from your local network correct?

Can you set a different dns server. I am not familiar with your setup but is it possible Or have I missed something again?

This all started the day this site moved to the new host....
I actually read that bit ;D

Just verify this for me, It seems to be because the dns lookup is swapping between the old and new ip address correct?

Do you feel confident to edit your hosts file for me? (with notepad)

Correct!

Not sure what you mean by host file? But anything that can be undone online is OK with me.

Ok the hosts file is a local file that the OS checks first before it goes out into the world and asks for name resolution.

It is specific to the machine that it sits on. So I would suggest if you are comfortable with changing it, you change it on your main Supertenere surfing computer and see how it goes for a while.

On XP/Vista/Win7 you should find it on C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\

Or more correctly (%SystemRoot%\System32\drivers\etc\)

The file is called "hosts" and it is just a text file (like a real OS for a change).

It looks like..
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
# Copyright (c) 1993-2006 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost
::1 localhost
96.126.123.205 www.yamahasupertenere.com # Temp Super Ten host Entry for testing.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That last line I added just so you should be able to copy and paste into Notepad.

In fact all you need in the file is anything that doesn't start with a #

Anything after a # is a comment.

So the usual proceedure is to copy the original into a safe place with a name like hosts_original or something.

Open up the hosts file in notepad and add .1 line..

96.126.123.205 www.yamahasupertenere.com # Temp Super Ten host Entry for testing.

and save.

You may have to be an administrator to do so. I always am so I forget what the procedure is if you are sensible and not running as an admin.

After that hopefully you will have reliable service.
If it is reliable you know it's something to do with your local DNS OR where it is getting it's info from.

From where I sit, it looks like your local dns has intermittent issues or the next jump along. Something is stored or cached somewhere. So I agree with the others to that extent, It's just we don't know where.

The rest of the world seems OK now. The problem seem intermittently local to you.

I was going to write a quick script t interrogate it at regular intervals to see whether it gave consistent results but it is inside your network so that doesn't look like it is possible.

I could try your ISP's DNS if you know what it is.

Anyway I'm off to get some beauty sleep now cause I really need it.

Graham, thanks for bringing up the hosts file entry. I use that same trick to use virtual hosts on my local (Windows) machine where I do development.

That *should* solve all problems, but I'm still wondering if there is impacting others who just haven't reported it. I'll see if my host has any thoughts.

My ISP engineer was certain that it is Host / DNS related. I would prefer not to have to use a fixed IP address for this site. Prefer a solution instead of a workaround.

But this will do the trick nicely until it is sorted out.

I have a few posts out on the support forum to see if anybody else has seen this situation. I'll let you know what I find out.

That is what we are all aiming for. This is just a temporary solution to eliminate the frustration until the real bug is found.

Most of this DNS stuff settles down after a few days unless someone has some ridiculous TTL entry somewhere. (like the maximum 68 years)

Since you edited the hosts file, I would say you are now qualified to buy a pocket protector and something from here...

Anyway we are all here to help out if possible.

Tell your ISP how you go after you changed the hosts file (he will fear you now :D), but I think all us geeks agree that it is a DNS problem, it's just where the problem is that we collectively are trying to figure out.

I just experienced part of what Blue Eyes is seeing. Got the maintence mode screen just a few minutes ago, but everrthing has been fine since. nslookup returned the correct IP address. Maybe you acually were in maintenance mode for awhile this time?

Yes, we actually were in maintenance mode. There are things I need to do periodically, and I try to do them late at night to minimize down time for the members.

We were only out for like five minutes though, man are you attentive! :D
