Every now and then the site is in maintenance mode again...?
This happened the last couple of days several times.
Is it just me who experiences this? Do not read anything about this here....

It could be he posted and then deleted before you clicked. That would cause a message like that.

I see he definitely has a post there now with two attachments. Check again and let me know what happens.
You both are correct. It was a Combo problem, so I deleted and reposted just to mess with GrahamD. ::025::

:D Got me.

By the way I am using FF and I kill cache and history on shutdown so it's always fresh as daisies. O:)

I delete cookies every so often as well just in case someones trying to mess with me.

If that is happening on your main connection (home, work, whatever it may be) then I find that very odd. The problem is that the DNS entries that tell your browser what IP address the server you're asking for is at) are dispersed on various servers throughout the world. When moving to a new host (new IP address) it takes time to update all the DNS servers out there, but once they're updated it should be a done deal. For it to switch back to an older entry is very odd.

The other thing that can mess things up is all the caching that is present throughout the entire flow of data from server to browser. Hoebster saw the issue at work but not at home, meaning his work may be caching domains to speed things up. There are many issues that can come up, but all DNS entries should be updated by now, so just keep refreshing your browsers and clearing out history and caches and you should be good.

Also, there is no plan to move off this new host...ever. They can scale to meet any need we that may arise, so all this hoopla should be a one-time event.

Hi Venture, it happened on the same laptop I frequently use to surf the web and this forum. It happened several times in the last 3 days. Last evening was the last time it happened.

Never mind, I'm glad to hear it is not the site being under construction. The site is snappy so all is good!

Thanks for all the great work!

Happy holidays!

Kees

I'm still having this issue.... It starts mostly at the beginning of the evening till after midnight (CET).

I experience this on three different notebooks and an iPad2. Cleared all the cache, cookies, the lots, reset the modem, router....

I'm lost... I intermittently get the "maintenance mode" screen. :'(

I haven't got the maintenance mode screen, but could not get on for about 20 minutes. It cleared and I did not do anything to my puter. So it was either the ISP or the site.
Come to think about it, it could not have been the ISP as I was able to load other sites.. Oh well...

Blue_eyes: next time you are having the issue, type the following at a command prompt (if you're on windows or Linux, or Mac, it should work):

Code:
nslookup yamahasupertenere.com
You should get a response something like this:

Code:
Non-authoritative answer:
Name: yamahasupertenere.com
Address: 96.126.123.205
If you happen to get an address of 174.132.79.93 then you're pointing to the old server, which still is running but is stuck in maintenance mode. Report back here what you see the next time this happens and we'll try and work towards resolution.

Japako: the server was down from 2:00-2:30PM on 12/24 due to an issue with the host. I don't know what was wrong, all I got was an email at about 1:55 saying they had to reboot the server and that was that. So if this is the timeframe you had issues in that was the reason. I'm not aware of any other downtime since we moved.

Hi Venture,

I haven't had any issues since my last post, but I thought I might as well do the nslookup whilst being logged in to the new site....

When I issue the nslookup command I get the 174.132.79.93 address while I am logged in to the new site! On all notebooks I have....

Yes, I'm logged onto the NEW website!

Weird!

The common point would be a router if Blues Eyes machines are at the same location. His OS finds the old server, so maybe this is a caching issue on his machines?

In a windows machine, try right clicking command prompt >run as administrator> ipconfig /flushdns

Worth a try.

Just did right clicking command prompt >run as administrator> ipconfig /flushdns

Then an nslookup yamahasupertenere.com

with the exact same result...

Well then, I don't think there are any more caches the user can clear since you already reset your router. Your ISP's DNS server, his provider's DNS server or possibly even higher up at the root DNS servers might be where the issue still exists (all have caches that can be corrupted). On your screen shot, I saw a 192.168.1.254 which I am assuming is your router and you said you reset both that and your modem..or maybe the modem and router is an all-in-one type of thing. If that's all done, you might want to contact your provider with the specific domain problem(yamahasupertenere.com) and have them take a look.

Thanks Tremor. The strange thing is that if it happens, it is mostly around/just after 17:30 o'clock. The modem and router are seperate.
Yesterday it happened again. And then the address 174.132.79.93 was returned.... really confusing.

I hope this will ebb-out over time... ::017::

I did some research and honestly, I can't explain why your DNS is pointing to the old host, yet you're still managing to end up here. I did manage to verify that the top-level DNS servers are all set correctly, and like you said, I hope your issues will ebb-out over time as the various caches reach their expiration dates.

I'll keep poking around to see what else I can figure out.

It should. The whole DNS thing is much more complicated then what I've mentioned. When you start talking about one server 'referring' name resolution to another it really gets interesting. That may be what's happening to you in the evening.

I'm still having this issue. Was online with my ISP regarding this issue, we used the tracert command to see the hops and where it ended, and it ended on the maintenance page IP...

It happens every now and then, multiple times per day. What I usually do to solve it is to google for the site, and start it from there. Sometimes that brings me to the new site and sometimes it doesn't....

My ISP will have an engineer investigate this, so let's wait what they figure out. ::017::

Hi Venture,

I have an engineer from my ISP onsite. They determined that the issue is not with my infra.

They expect an issue at your host. If we access the IP address directly: 96.126.123.205 the message is displayed: IT Works, the default Apache message.

Also, we see that the same IP hosts multiple (3) sites. Apparently the Ip address is not forwarded to the site (at all times)....

See the below message we get when accessing the IP directly:

So can you please investigate further, as I still have this issue sporadicly, everyday on any notebook in my home (I have 5).

We replaced modem replaced router, flushed every component at our side of the wall....

Kind regards,

Kees

Can ya do us a favour Mr Blue Eyes?

Windows Start --> Run

Enter cmd.exe

Then OK button or Enter..

When you are in the Geek zone.

You should see C:\Users\something _

Type nslookup yamahasupertenere.com

Then enter.

You should see something like

---------------------------------------
C:\Users\Blue_eyes>nslookup yamahasupertenere.com
Server: somednsserver.com
Address: 123.456.789.012

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: yamahasupertenere.com
Address: 96.126.123.205

C:\Users\Blue_eyes>

------------------------------------

From what I can see the DNS is resolving to the correct address but either something is using HTTP1.0 headers or the headers are not containing the correct information.
(it's either being stripped or something is set to use HTTP1.0. Which has no facility for Virtual hosts.)

I get exactly the same adress as you and exactly the same results going direct via IP.

Anyway if you had Firefox with the firebug extension added, You can get request and response info.

Is there an equivalent IE extension? Anyone?

Anyway, It just has to be intermittent doesn't it

Anyway, just for giggles in IE can you check tools-->Internet Options --> Advanced -->About half way down you should see HTTP 1.1 Settings.

Make sure the option "Use HTTP 1.1" is checked and the option "Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections" is checked.

Are you using any sneaky little IE add ons (extensions) that may "redirect" you through something Or is your IE as pure as the driven snow?

Cheers
Graham

Graham,

Please see my posts on the previous page and this 3rd page...

We already went that route.

Regardless of which notebook I use, I get either 174.132.79.93 or 96.126.123.205 and either one can be the NEW website or the not working maintenance website!

That is what is so weird! Even in the middle of a session the website changes so that while I'm posting, all is lost....

Verified all notebooks, and both options are checked X on all of them.
