I picked up one of these on Ebay for $12.57. Almost a perfect fit in the power port hole. Just a little bit of filing with a rat tail file to inlarge the hole. Not much though. Unclipped the stock plug and wired the new one to my Eastern Beaver power block. Wanted to keep track of voltage when all the extras are on. Seems to work great.

When doing this volt meter/usb change out, does the OE Cig receptacle have spade connectors that you can disconnect from it ? Or do you have to modify the wire harness.

When doing this volt meter/usb change out, does the OE power receptacle have flat spade connectors on the back that you can just plug into the new meter ? Or does the OE wire harness have to be modified to plug into the new meter ?

I honestly don't remember. I think I crimped two spade/flat end type connectors to the wires. And I think they came with the unit. Sorry it's been a few months.

OEM power plug is hardwired to a 2 pin connector.

I unclipped the stock power outlet, cut and saved the plug and connector. Fastened the supplied connectors. Here is what was included.

Hey guys, I’m pretty much the dumbest guy I know regarding electrical stuff. I can wire and and such but know nothing about fuses, relays etc. You know, the important stuff. I’m in the process of hooking up a few goodies on my dash shelf. A voltmeter and a usb charger to be exact. What fuse should I use for each?

Can i ask,

if you take standard one off and put one of these usb ones on IE. cut the plug off the standard one put on this new one and connect up would it still be as rubbish as the standard one anyway.
the standard one with that 3amp fuse keeps blowing when i try to use it on anything

cheers

I just got one off ebay. Cheap. It came with wiring and an inline fuse. I had to extend the wires and ran it to the battery with all the other shit I've got run to it.

I have one of those cheapo voltmeter/usb port adapters but I found it interferes with my Sena, buzzing noise in the headset.
Thanks for the tip , I had been thinking about ordering one.
Hope mine does not interfere with my Sena. I'm already noticing a buzz in the music when the fan comes on. OTOH, I don't see myself much using this except in emergencies and my GPS turn for turn directions.
I just installed mine today:IMG-0551.JPGIMG-0552.JPG

Okay, I tried clipping the wires from the old one and connecting them to the new one and I dont get any reading when I turn on the bike. Then, I tested running the leads directly to the battery and it lights up, so I can't figure out why it doesn't seem to work through the original circuit. Any suggestions among you gurus out there?

Thanks
