I thought it might be nice to have a single thread where we collect the results of valve checks and adjustment. While wear will depend on rider and bike variables, this would give us some calibration as to how things change with mileage. Suggesting we collect mileage, clearances in mm, and clearances after adjustment. If prior mileage and clearances are available, provide that info in the same post. (Not applicable for 1st check)
Format-Cylinder#, Left/Right, Intake/Exhaust

Spec is Intake .10 to .16, exhaust .22 to .28 mm,
Intake 0.0039 to .0063, Exhaust .0087 to .0110 inches

My data as an example (Initial check)
Miles 30,000
1 L I .127 no adj
1 R I .127 no adj
1 L E .2413 no adj
1 R E .2413 no adj
2 L I .127 no adj
2 R I .1143 no adj
2 L E .2286 no adj
2 R E .2413 no adj

A subsequent check would add a column with the new mileage and measurements, showing changes from prior adjustment, and net mileage.

Open to suggestions in format, or units of measure. If you get it done by a dealer/mechanic you need to ask for them to record the before and after measurements.

I'll play. Spec is Intake .10 to .16, exhaust .22 to .28 mm

2LI .15 .15 .14 .15
2RI .12 .12 .13 .12

2RE .25 .22 .19 -> .28 .25 -> .28

Using metric up here in the great north, metric bike, metric tools, metric shims.............
I haven't been following the intervals very well, if I have a couple rainy days with nothing to do I go at it! Last time I just set all the exhausts to the maximum clearance and I may not check them again until 200k, 170 on it now.
I have been able to root through my dealers stock of used shims to find those intermediate sizes which allowed me to get the clearances spot on the max.

edit........... I had it all in neat columns but when posted the spaces shrunk. :(

OP - Would it be possible to put the max/min recommended tolerances in your post, to act as a guide to where checks are within the range.

Good data, it tells a pretty good story on wear rate. (Though I know you're a pretty easy rider, just looking at your tire mileage) If someone rides more or less aggressively, they could add that comment with their data.
I like how you showed the adjustment (->), good standard to follow. We don't need neat columns, as long as there are the correct number of data points. Likewise on metric vs imperial, as long as its stated.

For some reason the edit function is not available to me on the original post, maybe a Moderator can assist.
Added spec data.

Moderators made it impossible to edit post after a few hours. Something with loosing the meaning, if a post is completely changed.

We've had some members leave and burn the bridges behind them by pulling their posts. And it rendered some threads completely incomprehensible.

Shoot me a DM here with what you need to add to the first post and I can take care of that.

Here is an analysis of GV550's 3 data points. Intakes are stable, so nothing of note. Focus is on Exhaust.
I normalized it to the specified interval (Change*(spec interval mileage/actual miles)).Valve check results.jpg
I am curious what the worst out of spec condition we may find. GV550's worst was one valve at .18 vs .22 spec.
I would be surprised if that's the worst out there.

Checked my valves for the first time at 41,000 miles and found all four exhaust valves tight at .20mm, .15mm, .20mm and .18mm. The intake side was ok at .14mm for 2 valves and .13mm for 2 valves

Were you showing any symptoms like a hard start? I had mine checked at 24k miles. all were supposedly in spec. Some barely in. Got 55k now and runs good as ever.

My worst exhaust valve was .11, at your same mileage. The thing was running great. My cheapo battery is getting old, but it did not need to crank long before or after adjustment. Hoping to take a post adjustment test ride today.

Adjusted, all exhaust, .229, the loose intake ended up too tight with the next available shim (.09), si put the old shim back in, and ended up at .152. I'm not sure what happened, the .166 reading was repeatable pre-cam lifting, and the .152 is repeatable now.

I wasn't going to take the cams out, but had a mishap when checking post re-shim, something to do with the manual CCT I was adding in at the same time. I had the zip ties off the sprockets to turn the motor 270 degrees, and the CC jumped teeth. Ugh...

Glad it worked out. My first time I pulled the cams straight after checking cylinder #2, then realized I needed to rotate 360°. Much harder to verify without marking the chain & cam marking to know where to zip tie. You learn lessons you won't repeat.
