V-Strom 1000 is dead. No longer being made.

I'm not arguing that the DL1k is still going to be in production, only that it's absence from the website is a poor predictor.
Absence of a model of bike from manufacturers website is an outstanding indicator. It means they will not be producing it.

No, it means they haven't included it on their USA website as of this time.

This EXACT thing happened years ago on Stromtroopers when I owned one - lots of drama about the model ending because it wasn't on their website, then it showed up a month or two later.

I'm not sure it was DL1k, but I remember a bike not for sale in 2008. They weren't on the website, weren't available. Then in 2009, it showed up again. The economy was so crappy the manufacturer gave production a rest for a year to clear out leftovers.

Then there are bikes still in production and available in other countries. Look at all the Honda Veraderos that weren't produced... for sale in the USA.

CLARITY: you may be right that the model is discontinued, but its absence on the USA website, right now, today, is not reliable proof of that.

Everyone should calm down, it’s really normal practice for manufacturers to roll out their new model year lines in stages. It’s also possible Suzuki has left over ‘19 models they want to clear before releasing the ‘20 model, especially if there are improvements and upgrades to the new one.

LOL, WJ, so basically you're also speculating on why the DL1000 was left off Suzuki's list of 2020 models? :)

Seriously, speculating and extrapolating from sketchy facts is human nature. Doesn't matter if it's the termination of a motorcycle model, or the path of Hurricane Dorian, or who might get traded from the Yankees. Two Neandethals probably sat around looking at that weird stick figure that Oog just painted and wondered what he really meant by it.

No speculation on my part. I cannot go into any dealership today and buy or put a deposit on a 2020 DL1000. I can, however, walk into a Yamaha dealership right now and reserve a brand spanking new 2020 R1. I can also put a deposit down on a brand spanking new 2021 Tenere 700.

Maybe you can't order one now, Chris, but that doesn't equate to the title of your post: "The DL1000 is dead". The fact that you can't buy one right now isn't a lock that Suzuki has killed the model off. If you look at the Stromtroopers forum, you'll see that this same speculation was rampant a few years back when Suzuki didn't offer the DL1000 in a current model year. This may have even happened on two prior occasions; I'd have to do more research, but it has happened at least once before. And it was the same sort of speculation; the bike is dead, it's not being offered any more, it's the end of the DL1000. And it was, right up until they brought it back.

You may very well be right about it being discontinued; I'm not on the board of directors of Suzuki so I don't have the inside track on what they're planning. I'd hazard a guess that no one here holds that position either. But Suzuki's prior history with this model has shown that the fact that a new model wasn't offered during a particular year isn't a definitive answer that it's been killed off.

Why can't BOTH rumors be correct? Seems to ME that if the DR is built, they wouldn't need the DL. Also, hasn't there been a year or two that the Tenere was rumored to be discontinued because it wasn't shown on next years lineup?

Seems like August is a bit early for this annual thread. But its always a good reminder that fall is right around the corner.

Thanks for keeping this tradition alive. Normally I need to go th stromtrooper to enjoy this topic.

I don't know anything about the DL1000, but remember in 2014 when Yamaha didn't initially announce the Super Tenere. Right away everyone said no more Super Tenere, then a while later they had a revamped Gen2.
I wouldn't doubt the model is cancelled, but wait and see. I remember Suzuki having all kinds of shaft drive bikes back in the 80s. I don't know why they continue to build all chain drive. To me, that is a good reason to never consider buying any of their offerings. Maybe they offer belt drive? Another good reason to never consider buying.

I'm guessing the future will bring a 2020 DL1000 I'm anxious to see it if has cruise control or what if anything of substance they have added.

As ! stated the V-Strom 1000 is no longer being made. When I can go put a deposit down on it then it will start being made. It's simple manufacturing 101. As of right now this minute there is not one dealer in the US that is taking a deposit on one. Same as the Super Tenere. No dealers are taking deposits on a 2020 Super Tenere.

If you notice my original post I did not state that it would never be made again. Some comprehension skills are in order for some of the members;)
