Highway 12 has got to be one of the best Motorcycle roads. It has slickrock, mountains, twists, turns, pine trees, and unbeatable scenery. I’ll be back. I should have taken this route down and back. It’s that good. View attachment 53656
And get home-made pie at the Burr Trail Grill in Boulder! Or lunch at the Cafe Diablo in Torrey! (If looping back!)

I came into the little town of Escalante and there was a hamburger stand called Nemo’s. Excellent jalapeño burger and fries.

As I was sitting there enjoying my lunch, a guy pulls up all excited asking who’s riding the bike. Everyone points to me and he comes over to talk.

He runs a motorcycle repair shop in town and was excited that it was finally time that bikes were showing up.

I told him how much I was enjoying Highway 12, he asks which way I came from. Then tells me the way ahead is the best part. Most twisty, up, down, no guardrail, mountains up to 10000 feet. I thought he was pulling my leg.

Nope, he was spot on. Awe inspiring road. Up to almost 10,000 feet in elevation. Then back down through the pines all the way to Torrey Ut. Wow.
Was he on a Harley? Probably "The Motorcycle Doctor".... Great guy. I've run into him a few times.
Met him on the Burr Trail once and He told me about a guy from New York who flew to Denver and rented an HD intending to ride it to the west coast.

When he got to hwy 12 and onto the narrow twisty part on the top with the lack of shoulders and drop offs it freaked him out so much that he parked the bike and called a tow truck (Motorcyle Doc) to come get the bike, then he caught a plane ride the rest of the way to the coast.

Yep, that’s him. The motorcycle Doc. Super nice guy.

Your photos of the snow and mud really reminded me of show I just watched about a group of guys riding from London to Beijing on ADV bikes. They crossed the Himalayas near Everest, and the roads looked just like the one in your picture (well, except for the trees). I think I'd have turned back long before you did....
I'm currently midway through this series you talk about. Interesting to see a BMW out of service due to fuel pump (?) issues and the rider renting an old Tenere to ride up to that Irkeshtam Pass - which was one of those 'hell on earth' section of their ride.
