I have a neighbor who sold his Harley after one too many close calls. He called me up and asked if I wanted his heated jacket. It’s made by gerbing just branded HD.
It came with a dual controller but was missing the SAE to coax connected. The only local street shop is HD. I called them up and they told me they had a good selection of wiring/adapters. So I made the drive in.

The attitude I got was 180. The same girl who was rude, was the most friendly and helpful person. Coincidence? I don’t think so. But because I had a HD logo jacket I was in the club.
Too bad they have to be so inclusive. The business they could pick up.

Anybody had experience with Indian dealerships?
I've been in a few and the common attitude was a sane sales guy on a little more welcoming level. Kinda like:

"Let's talk about why we are not stuck in the HD rut" without being condescending.

While still trying to portray the bad ass biker image. I have to assume such. The few guys I've seen on Scouts seem to be trying to emulate the image anyway.

A good friend in SC has his and hers Indians. Says it's been a great experience. I put a deposit on a Pan Am last spring. Emails were never returned and phone messages were never answered. Asked about eta and costs.....crickets.
The Yamaha dealer is right next door.

Back in '79, all the Japanese dealerships were all in the same block; Kennewick WA. They were separate dealerships. The Honda dealer didn't want to waste time on a 16 year old kid. Kawasaki was friendly-er, but not real interested. Suzuki, and Yamaha were more than willing to talk bikes. At the time, I wanted the Suzuki GL650, and was saving my pennies . . . . until Yamaha came out with the SECA 550. Love at first sight, and the rest is history. But, if the Yamaha dealer acted like the Honda dealer, I would have never become a Yamaha true believer.

pulled the trigger on an R1250GS instead. Similar price and the beemer offers more bells and whistles, plus it's not a first year bike.
Thats hardly relavent…..BMW only seem to make ‘first year bikes’ these days.o_O
A mate that swapped a Pan for a new RT has just had new down pipes as the exhaust valve has seized already, gotta love bmw warranty, cos you couldn’t afford them without it:eek:

The PA's are having a lot of problems. Way more than just some growing pains. There's 3-4 PA Facebook pages and they are full of sad stories. I wouldn't touch one.

Yeah, I’m disappointed to read all the glitches and troubles the HD Pan is having. Most seem to be software related so will probably be ironed out with updates. More concerning to me are the handful of engine mechanical failures I’ve read about. I’d love to own an American made bike, with modern design like the Pan Am, but I’m not going to suffer reliability problems to do so.

Spot on.
Being truly all new there's no surprise they are having 1st year problems and will sort them out. But sure would be aggravating to own one right now.

Have a couple HDs and imports in the garage. No way Id sell my farkled S10 for a PA right now (too much time / $$) making it perfect for me. The PA has had me interested and the bike has issues. But as a side note for me, a big turn off with HD was always their shitty attitude towards riders interested in anything other than a bagger or softtail. They always seemed to treat Buell or sportster folks like trespassers.

I consider youre on your own with a PA as far as warranty stuff too and service. Might as well buy used and be a guy who works on bikes, because HD techs are simple folks that want easy money for easy parts swap. Youre taking a bike built like an import bike and asking these guys to fix em. You bring that PA in and I can guarantee theyre bitching about who is gonna be working on it and passing it onto the newest guy. No thanks.

My interest was piqued when the PA was first announced and I truly looked forward to seeing one in person once it was released. Finally got the chance this past Summer and I honestly must admit that I was very disappointed. The most glaring issue for me was how cheap the bike appeared. There was a kind of parts bin vibe with the PA and the attention to engineering and design detail was almost non existent. The welds on the frame were similar to a newer Royal Enfield and the wiring layout and their appearance looked so unfinished. That and many other things prevented me from even wanting to take it for a test ride which I was offered. Perhaps after and model year or two the PA will be tweaked and the initial teething issues will get resolved which will then strengthen HDs entry into the ADV market.

+1

Many of my friends over the years have been surprised that I don't have/want a Harley. Cost and reliability have always been my response. More reliability than cost. 'Cuz I wouldn't mind the cost if they were reliable.

The face you greet at the front desk and somewhat for the sales staff reflect the attitude of the owner or manager of a business, be it McDonalds vs Chick-Fil-A or HD vs Yamaha dealers. The problem at HD dealers seems to come from what or whomever is driving the owners.
Chick-Fil-A sounds intriguing, what is it ?

It is a fast-food chicken restaurant that is known for its organization, and ability to service a huge number of customers in a fast, and efficient manner. It was joked that if they had been in charge of vaccinations, everybody would have been vaccinated in a week. Oh, and it's delicious.
