My wife and I are just back from a very enjoyable 3 weeks in mainland Europe visiting France. Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland and back to France In all that time we saw only one other XT. We arrived in Roscoff on Sunday and had approx 600 km to our first stop over. About 150 km from our hotel i pulled into a fuel station and filled up. Now I really mean filled up. I have a number of 1/8" holes inside my filler cap and this enables me to get some extra petrol. I only do this if I intend to fill and sash with no coffee. This time however I delayed probably 5 minutes. Getting back on the motorcycle again it started as normal and travelled approx 25 - 30 mtrs and died. It startwd immediately but again traveled no more than 10 mtr and again died. We dismounted and started to worry. I checked and the fuel pump would run when cycling the ignition. My second thoughts were that I had put the wrong fuel (Diesel) in the motorcycle. Checking my receipt proved that I had put petrol in. Opening the filler and sniffing confirmed this. I again started the motorcycle and again it started no problem but cut out after a short time when revved . I decided to remove the fuel and refill . I tried the shop but was unable to purchase a hose to syphon. Going back to the motorcycle I was about to call my breakdown service when I again started the motorcycle and let it tick over for maybe 3 minutes without revving. It seemed to run perfectly and when I eventually revved it answered thecall. I then decided to give it a go and gearing up again we headed off. Not a hint of a problem since and we did in excess of 7500km since. Since returning I have checked the fuel filter in the tank and the tank itself. Both are spotless. The plugs and coils have been checked and all fuses have been checked and proved to be clean and making good contact. My own thinking is that my delay in moving on caused pressure in the tank which forced petrol into the vent pipe and overflow which vapour locked the tank. Any thought would be welcomed. The motorcycle is 2021 Z. with 28k km.
