I’ve been wearing Arai XD’s since they first came out, have completely worn out quite a few of them. Yes I have read quite few folks complaining about wind drag and wind noise from the sun visor but that has never ever been a issue for me and I’ve had it up 126mph on GPS. The main thing I like about the XD is the extra big window. The sun visor and air vents also work excellent for me.
My only complaint would be changing faceshield is way to much work !

My youngest uses the Arai Signet (US flag). He had an HJC modular that wasn't bad for the price, but not even close in the weight and comfort. The oldest is a die-hard Icon user. I wasn't too confident on the quality, but when he had his crash. . . . it did what it was supposed to. . . . with barely a scratch. The do have some "unique" graphics, and are relatively inexpensive, meet DOT standards, along with EU's, and Japan's. . . . but, not SNELL.

I have a Bell SRT Modular. I like it quite a lot, especially equipped with the Pro-Tint transitions visor. My other is a Shoei Neotec 1. Probably about due to be retired.

Wow!! I just looked at that model. Bell is now going back to making some very good helmets.

Hmm. I am comfortable in both Arai and Shoei. I just go for the better deal. Maybe it's because i had an operation on my brain-bucket at 6 mos. of age for craniosyntosis. Long story short, they cut the skull where the natural sutures should have been and modify skull plates to allow skull growth. My head is not symmetric at all, and maybe that's why i can fit into both. it's been 60 years since they did the sawing, and things are going............................................................

what? where was i?

Oh, things are ok.

I'm another Neotech 2 user.

blitz11's story relates to my grand daughter's head having been a bit out of shape diagonally. When she was about 6 months she was fitted with a foam helmet to grow into and sure enough at 9 months it is now symmetric & no longer needs it. As she is becoming quite the little couch walker they keep it loosely on now because she keeps falling on her noggin.

When I ride my S10 I wear a SHOEI X2 Hornet. I have always been pretty loyal to SHOEI as through all my years riding dirt and street their helmets always
best fit the shape of my melon.
The visor is never an issue for me even at highway speeds as it is very nicely vented with plenty of louvers to prevent drag and whistling.
A visor is also obviously quite useful during rides real early in the morning as the sun rises as well as much later in the day when the sun starts to set.
If I want to go visor-less the visor is very easily removed with two quick-disconnect screws (just using a coin) and a snap tab on top.
The face-shield is also very easily removed with no tools needed so I can use my goggles when I venture off the slab.
The X2’s ventilation is excellent and the lid is relatively quiet as well. The weight is about average.
Two of the most important features of the X2 are that it is both DOT approved and SNELL rated
(very few helmets are both DOT/SNELL) and since it is still made in Japan the construction and quality is top notch.
This ^ On my second one.

I like your lid's colorway!
My X2 is also silver:

Got the color version for the solid price, as it was the latest mfg date they could find. When I needed a new one, they were all aging on the shelf, no new imports.

When I bought mine in August of '18 it had a July '17 build date so I was good to go.
Even better was that I got a great price for the X2 as the place I bought it from online
had a discount voucher at the time for confirmed members of the ADV Rider forum.

I really like the Bell SRT modular, tried one on a couple of years back and was impressed with the fit and how luxurious it felt. It’s on my upgrade shortlist. Have you had any issues with it?

I really don’t go for the so called adventure styled helmets, I can see the peak being useful on sunny days but I think the noise and lift is a big minus point for me, so my current helmets are a Shark Carbon and an Arai Chaser

Two + years use, a year of which was daily, and the only issue to date is the little nylon fabric pull tab for loosening the D-rings kind of shredded. I cut it off and have not missed it. On my first multi-day long tour to Calgary via the long way from SoCal, I started getting some pain after a couple of long days where the ear loops on my glasses go over the tops of my ears. I'd recently gotten a new pair of glasses with thicker frames. I solved the problem for the rest of my trip by switching to my spare pair that had slimmer ear loops. Later when I got home I discovered I'd placed my Cardo Pack talk speakers too high in the ear pockets. I'd hastily installed it the night before departure. Sure wish I'd thought to check that when I was on my trip! Lowered them down a bit - problem solved. No complaints since. I think the shield mounting mechanism is even easier and slicker than the Shoei's.

Yeah, tried one on for the first time at the Long Beach MC show in November 2018 and really liked it. I ended up leaving hints for the wife and she got it for me for Christmas that year. Found it on Amazon for less than $300. It's a hell of a value. This is the design I got, to go with my red '15 ES, but it looks like they're clearing that design out now. Really cheap price but only limited sizes. Newer designs are higher priced but still a bargain compared to Shoei.

I wore a Shoei helmet for many years......then, they changed the fit of the helmet which didn't work for me. So, for the last 10 years or so, I have been wearing HJC modular helmets. I currently wear the IS Max II.fpp582343w14-350.png

I have a Arai XD and have loved it. I am a big fan of visors. Venting works well.
On my second XD helmet. Actually I think it went XD2, Shoei Hornet, XD4. Current XD4 is 5 years old and showing its age. I love the peak and use it as a sun block often. Hate to give up that feature. Don't really want to replace it with another XD4 because it is way overdue for a redesign. Probably squeeze one more season out of the current one.

I have the Arai XD4 for my interstate highway riding and cold weather but if it’s hot or I know I’m just taking the backroads to my favorite dirt road area then I wear a Bell Mag 9. Can’t beat the visibility and airflow.
