Nice Rack

SW-MOTECH Quick-Lock Sidecarrier Evo Style

Here is the system illustrated:

Step 1: install the unobtrusive quick-lock receivers. Bet you would have a hard time locating them the first time you saw the bike.

Step 2: With a coin or flat bladed screw driver secure the racks to the bike (quarter turn fasteners).

Step 3: Slide the case of your choice onto the racks and lock. Case adapters are sold separately starting at $20.00 so you can choose from 7 different case brands. Givi, Kappa, TraX, Pelican, Krausser, Hepco & Becker and Shad.

Here is a PDF of the Installation Instructions if you want to look at the complexity of the install. Without having done it myself I would guess this to be a 2 beer install. I noticed that they include one set of mounting brackets powdercoated in black so they blend in with the pipe. Nice touch

Nice photos!!!! From your website (and from SW-Motech's) the following statement is somewhat discouraging for anyone wanting to ride with a passenger:

"This QUICK-LOCK EVO Side Carrier is designed for 1-Up riding only (riding without a passenger)! Due to the geometry of this motorcycle, the EVO-Carrier and cases must be mounted further forward than usual and may interfere with passenger leg room (positioning the EVO-Carrier further to the rear would compromise the integrity of the motorcycle)."

Do you know if this is applicable with all brands of cases when mounted on SW-Motech racks?

TIA

@ Twisted Throttle. I have a question regarding the SW Motech crash bars. In the photos it looks like the bars sit very close to the side panels of the bike and that an "off" might shove them into the panels. How close and flexible are they and do you have any photos of the crash bars looking head on with the bike? Thanks in advance.

Good question....I have the same concern. Also, could you tell us a bit about mounting?

I actually sent an email earlier today about the crashbars to our chief designer in Germany. Time lag may make it diffacult to get a quick answer with a little back and fourth I should have something to you guys in a day or two.

In the meantime to answer Keeponriding:

If you follow This Link you can see the graphical installation instructions that should give you a fairly decent understanding of the installation process.

One special note is that it is suggested that you install the right hand side first... I have installed several sets of SW-MOTECH crashbars and they go on very easily. Everything lines up perfectly. There is no coaxing a bar to line up with a mounting point. German precision in full play here. Hold the bar up and the mount points will call out to you and say "Mount me here please".

Thanks...I've also seen other postings about the "glove box" and access with crash bars in place.

Is that a problem with the Motech bars?

That is the main query I am addressing with the design team. Will let you know asap.

This pic that is among the many posted by Wasp should answer that.
Maybe my memory is shot or I'm just confused, but the picture of the skid plate at the top of this thread shows rivets and I don't remember seeing any on the skid plate you won in the raffle. I remember it being welded on all the joints. Ok, where'd I put that Ginka Biloba? ;D

Olie, you are correct. There are no rivets in the SW-Motech that I won in the Twisted Throttle raffle. That pic must have been a prototype or something.

Are those not bolts, holding the brackets on the skid plate? You then use the brackets to bolt to the bike.

Thanks Japako, that makes more sense! They really looked like rivets to me from the photo-makes perfect sense.

Actually the rivets you see are mounting bolts with special collars around them to help distribute the load over a larger surface in the event of an impact. The S10 skidplate does not use the SW-MOTECH rivet technology but is welded.

SW-MOTECH uses this method of riveting to mate multiple pieces of metal together. When they can, they construct their skid plates out of a single continuous piece of metal. It adds durability. The rivet technology is one that actually bonds the metal together which makes them stronger than your average rivet. When pushed to the limits this type of rivet is usually the last things to separate during a traumatic impact.

Thanks for the clarification. I misinterpreted the photo but I get it now.

Any chance you'll be making light bars? I know you make the under-the-headlight mount/brackets... but something like the GS has for some nice 4" lights?

Hello, been buying stuff from you guys for a while now. I have a question about the quick-lock side carriers. On the website for the mounts it lists an option for hepco becker bags. Do you know if these will mount the hepco becker 30l junior cases or are they designed to mount just the new xplorer/aluminum series cases? The reason I ask is the I have a set of the junior cases with the quick lock mounts on my sv1000s (from twistd throttle) and I'd like to know if I could use the cases (not mounts).
Thanks

FYI for others reading this post, this is what the junior cases look like, not my bike but it looks just like mine except my SV is red with a corbin seat.
