I have a bunch of "big bikes" and have been kicking around the idea of a late 70s or early 80s dual sport (XL, XT, DT, etc) putter to leave at my folks mountain home to hit trails I grew up on when i visit. My search has rekindled the memories of these old bikes (starting and tempermental) and have decided against that route (I wanna ride & not wrench also). The folks I know love their T dubs and it really seems like a cool putter for what I want. Im sure there's guys here with em. Like to hear other folks that own one.

They hold their value here. New ones are hard to get since Covid. I wish they were fuel injected.

The TW is beautiful, but if it's to leave it at your parents' house, and to use it on trails, maybe a TTR 230 is more accurate, focusing only on Yamaha…

Mak is right, they've gotten hard to find. And if you do, they're more expensive than they should be. Used prices are only a couple hundred below what a new one costs. I keep my wife's on a 'Tender, and stabilizer in the fuel. Starts up and runs perfectly every time.

Yeah used on these is ridiculous. Ill buy a new one, but only if one's reasonable, as its purely a convenient toy.

The TW is my choice over a CRF or XT for the big tires (mild snow play).

I do wish they'd of gone FI.

It looks like they're regarded as fun little bikes in general and thought of foundly by owners.

If you have the $ in the bank it “might” be a better return on your $$$$. They hold their value and it won’t cost much to own.
My kids all had bikes growing up. And I bought used and kept them in good shape. Never had a problem selling them for at least what I bought them for or made some money.

I have a Suzuki tu250x that is FI and it is so nice. No choke to mess with. Simple reliable, my wife pushes the button and it starts. I love the little bike.

I don't know what's going on with Yamaha, and the TW. The website is showing their list at $4,599. Last year they listed at $4,800, and before that at $5,400. Tell me anything else in this day & time that keeps dropping it's price. Opinion: Yamaha is getting rid of their inventory of carbed TWs before they FI it. Around here, used TWs are going for $4-4,500. In '18 I got my '01 for $1,400 with less than 2k miles on it. Not a scratch on it.

EDIT: With the stabilizer in the gas, and the battery on the 'Tender, the choke isn't an issue. It starts first try everytime. It does take a minute to warm up, but I'm not sure FI would fix that.

LOL, the dealers wouldn't know it.... All Ive talked to want MSRP and 35% for otd..... Im passing for now, the bike isnt worth that kinda $$$ and the folks paying it are outta their minds.... You'd think by now they'd be planning on putting the XT250 motor and FI in it. Thatd squash the main complaints of power, 6 speed, FI and easy way to really make it a modern great bike.

The manufacture reps claim they "won't stand for price gouging". . . . yet their dealers keep demanding over m.s.r.p. I agree with not paying over it.

The word “folk” is already plural. There is no need to add the s
Google says:
In American English, folk and folks can both mean a group of people with a small difference. “Folk” is a collective noun and refers to a group of people in general. “Folks” is a group of individuals. In some situations, you can use either folk or folks but in other situations, it can be best to use folk or folks.
