Anyone here using a Spot Trace ?
I already own a Garmin In Reach Explorer but it’s more complicated and expensive so been considering getting a Spot Trace and I’m curious what Tenere owners might have to say about them.

Most likely your phone. With my flip phone, my wife could only track me to an area, not a specific location. :D

I thought about those, but they need to be close to a phone with cell service. Doesn't have to be your phone, but a phone that's connected to the internet.

Check out Zoleo, a lot of the extreme back country sledders and skiers have switched to it.
These guys go far more remote then any ADV rider will ever go by a long shot.

After looking at both Spot Trace and Zoleo all I really know for sure is the Zoleo costs quite a bit more to buy and the monthly fees are double or more. Neither website ever shows what their maps actually look like or explain how to send a link to someone so they can actually see where I might be.

A person at Cabelas yesterday told me if I bought one and didn’t like it I could return it for a refund, I do wonder how true that might be ?

Zoleo is not a mapping tool. It is a messaging tool that you can use for tracking. Zoleo uses the Iridium satellite system and the mobile network (whichever is the cheaper/available).
Cost me about AU$300 and costs AU$32 per month. After 3 months you can suspend/unsuspend as required. Costs me $AU$6 per month while suspended.
When I send an I am OK message & messages a link to a spot on google map is sent to the recipient.
Talk to the Zoleo help desk. I have found them very helpful.
