How do you think "power" is determined? It's a fueling map, which includes timing advance, etc. But the fact is you're still working with the same engine and the same components, the only thing different is the delivery of fuel to the engine. That's the beauty of throttle by wire.

Take a look here for an idea of what we mean: https://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?threads/flash-tune-anyone-care-to-share-knowledge-of-the-software-maps.22482/post-317946
So fuel equals power ?

I am assuming that there is no power difference, only a delay in the delivery of the power. In "S", it's all about RIGHT NOW. In "T" it's more like "in a minute". Taking off from stand still in "T" feels like I have a low tire. RC nailed it, everybody's muscle memory makes you twist the throttle in a certain way. FI is way different than carbs. "S" is way different than the average FI system. I love that I don't have to twist the throttle in "S". I barely have to move it, and she does exactly what I want her to do. Tanere, I don't think it matters "S" or "T" with that much highway miles. City driving is where you're going to love or hate it. It's also the best place to re-cal your wrist. It forces your muscles to get a new memory. For the record, in case you couldn't tell, I can't remember the last time I used "T"; too sluggish.

I cant believe there is no difference in power between the 2. Mine is flashed by the way. In T mode its a pussycat. In S mode it throws me back in the seat and i have to grip tight to hold myself in place. 2 different bikes.
Hi, if your bike is flashed, then yes, it is possible that 2 totally different fuelling maps have been added. However, Yamaha claim the same power from each mode, it’s only the manner in which the throttle on the fuel injectors are lifted that is different on the stock bike. For example, the mechanical way to make it less snatchy is to fit a throttle tamer, the cam-type twist grip that provides a progressive throttle opening.
On a ride-by-wire bike, the fuelling would remain the same for a given opening of the twist-grip but the throttles on the fuel injectors would open more progressively. If it were not for ride-by-wire, most modern day bikes would be virtually unrideable. Even MotoGP bikes and World Superbikes have ride-by-wire and those guys really are riding gods. Cast your mind back a few years, there was an incident when Danny Pedrosa’s factory Honda MotoGP bike had a sensor knocked off. He opened the throttle and the bike spun-up so fast that it just spat him off into a whole world of pain.
Modern bikes putting out 120 plus BHP would be unrideable if it wasn’t for sensors feeding information into the ECU.

I’m sure this has been asked already but does a flash change both T and S mode or only one?
That's a question for the person doing your flash. Every flash is different, every person makes decisions for what is "ideal" for their own flash when developing it.

My bike has been kept in (S) 99.9% from day ONE !

That 0.1 % (T) was used September 18, 2012 in Arkansas. This was only due to tearing it up off road all day, and my arms were getting ripped off. So accidentally I switched it to the (T) for a few min.

LOL, jk

Ha!! No judgement from this corner. I don't imagine that with your long distance & two-up, that "S" would have been very enjoyable.

I only use "S" when in the hills on the twistys. Living in the London area, too much easy acceleration + speed cameras,(some set as low as 20mph in central London) can soon have your licence, hard earned cash in fines, and insurance cost going through the roof.
