Torn between buying another 2013 or a 2014 What's your opinion on my situation?

There is nothing sluggish about a bike that can do a sub 12 second quarter mile, 0 to 60 in about 3.5 seconds and handles as well as this one does. The pre WC BMW 1200 made essentially the same power as the first gen S10, and it was not labeled as sluggish. The reflash can be done, but I enjoyed my 2012 tremendously without it, and am enjoying the 2015 as well.

To date I am unaware of any recalls on this bike. Maybe there is one but I am unaware of any. And that is since the started making them in 2012. Now compare that to the BWW GS's or any BMW model for that matter. They have 2 or 3 a year it seems like. Even on the new ones. So think about the reliability the Teneres must have.

One:
Yamaha and the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) are issuing the recall campaign number 14V044000. The campaign is triggered by some problems detected in the headlight bulb sockets of certain motorcycles, but no accidents or injuries have been reported at the time of writing

Two:

Certain 2015 FJ-09, FZ-09, FZ6R, Super Tenere, Super Tenere ES and R6 Yamaha models are being recalled for a potential gearbox issue.

Well then I guess I was wrong about the recalls. My bad... But I can tell you they are no where near as common as those that I got on my BMW's..... Just saying.. I've owned 3 Bmw GSA's and 2 RT's. I'm over the BMW bikes. I'd take my Tenere over any BMW bike I have ever owned. I just get on it and ride with no worries..

The motorcycling press paints a rather bleak picture of the S-ten from everything I have seen

I have seen words like "sluggish", "subdued", and "workmanlike" used to describe the super tenere, and I am pretty worried that I will not like the bike, or that I will find it so tedious that I will need to dump a load of money into squeaking out a few more HP. But it was a great deal and hopefully I won't dislike it. My primary bike at the moment if a first generation DL1000 (which is also no ball of fire) so maybe the super tenere will seem about right.

It does look like the ECU flash is really necessary to get the bike to run as it should . I need to find out the best place to have that done!
Send it to forum member Anthony (avc8130) I am loving my flash it will truly amaze you in S mode.

I guess power is relative. The Tenere has 20 more HP than your typical hog which most hog owners aspire for and no magazine poo poos, at least power wise.
For an adventure bike it has plenty, if you want a racing bike look elsewhere.

Same here, I've had 6 BMW's over the years, nice enough bikes but the Super Tenny does everything a GS will do and the FJR does everything a K bike will do with all the added wonkiness and uneccessary complication BMW loves to throw in the mix. I doubt I'd buy another one.

+1 on getting ACV8130 to flash your ECU. He did mine and I'm incredibly happy. This and the clutch basket replacement for 12/13 years are in my opinion no brainer upgrades. Particularly the clutch.

I have finally got the 13 home. I have been riding it around a bit to get some break in time on it and I am so far very pleased. It is a super smooth, very solid bike. I am sure I will have the ECU flashed (contact info for the flash guy, anyone? have tried PM him but no luck) and get a decent rack on the back eventually but I dont foresee the need to do much else. I am very pleased

I bought the 13 because of the white, but I wish I had the cruise like the 14.
I've had the latest MCCruise electric servo unit professionally installed on my 2011 bike. Should have had it done it ages ago (couldn't have, because it was only the vacuum servo model available for the S10, until recently), because it makes such a difference to a long day's ride. After one month with the unit installed, would I do it again - yes, it's a great piece of kit.

Not cheap, but to put it in perspective, most people happily fork out much larger sums to install a pair of over-priced biscuit tins on the rear to cart their belongings around :)

I have been enjoying this bike a great deal, I am very happy with my purchase. I would be happier if it has 130 rear wheel HP but still, very satisfied. I will do the normal little tweaks to get the best power out of the bike, I am attempting to reach the ECU flash guy and will probably ad a Yoshimura slip on muffler. I am really, really pleased with the bike and aside from these few tweaks, I will just ride it!!

Right now I own a 2013 White S10 that I absolutely love. My son is a senior this year and has basically taken my bike over. I'd love to buy another one so the 2 of us can do some trips together. I have kinda decided i'd really like a bike with electronic cruise but the prices for another 2013 are so enticing that I'm wondering if I'd regret buying another 2013? I've seen some pretty farkled out 2013's for under $9k. I wouldn't be able to even touch that for a 2014 or newer with all the stuff these 2013 have. I've never ridden a 2014 so I really don't know what I would be missing but here they are great. I've just told myself that I want the Electric cruise and E Suspension. But like I said the prices for these 2013's are pretty sweet. I even saw one for $7900 with a Rostra Cruise which is basically an electronic cruise. So those of you who have ridden both what do you think? Also my son can't afford his own so that's not an option of making him buy one. I want some Father and Son riding time and think this would be a great way to go. When he decides to move out on his own I will give him the option to buy one of them Cheap or I will just sell it. It's not gonna be a gift for him at this point..
Sounds like a champagne problem; can't lose either way.

Well I most likely will be putting it off for a few months. The generator just went out in the Motorhome so I have to replace it. Looking for a used one but they are hard to come by for a decent price unless it has thousands of hours. And a new one is over $4k. Ouch... Not what I wanted right now.. Oh well.
