Has anyone besides me had those tiny little screws that the limit straps attach to break ? One of mine broke in May and I never bothered fixing it because with one broke the cover actually stayed open like it's supposed to, but now the other one broke so there's nothing to limit how far the cover opens so I need to figure out a decent way to fix it that will last ? Any ideas ?

I've got one that's broken too, lost one of the straps. Just haven't dealt with it.

A Zip Tie should work. Choose a zip tie, cut to length, drill small holes, install.

or

Gorilla Tape. Folded to the length you want. Cut to length, drill small holes, install.

Thanks for the ideas but the straps are fine it's the screws that are supposed to hold the straps in place that are broke and missing.

Go to your local hardware store and buy some stainless steel screws.

On my previous OEM side cases the lids did not open enough for me so I... removed one screw... tilted the lid... installed the screw. Cool Beans.

I have had two sets. The only concern was the lids on the first set did not open wide enough. Easy fix.

Yes probably easy enough to fix but these crazy bag latches and limit strap issues should have been fixed by Yamaha years ago but no they just keep selling them with the same issues .

Wonder how many complaints Yamaha has received. Has anyone contacted them?

I suppose it possible that Yamaha is unaware of the luggage issues but it's more likely that they contracted with some outfit to build a gazillion of these bags so they simply don't want to spend the money to fix these crazy issues.

I went to the local hardware sore and found nice little threaded thing with a shoulder on one end, drilled a hole all the way through the side of the box and put in a stainless steel Allen head bolt, so far it seems like a very good fix but time will tell. I only did one side and the box seems to stay open very nicely but it's been pretty warm here lately so in will be interesting to see if it still works good when it gets cold.

I like your idea of the slightly larger stainless steel screw and that method would have been easier, not sure but I suspect stainless steel screws are a lot stronger than the screws Yamaha used.

So did you just create a new hole when you moved the screw? Not sure I follow. I'd like my lids to open a bit farther so they stay open more reliably, especially in cool weather when the limit straps get a bit stiff.

Yes. Removed the screws in the case... moved the lid to where I liked... marked the location of where I wanted the screw... used an awl to make a small hole... screwed the screw. Repeat on the other side. Never had one of the OEM plastic straps break.

If you have the Tenere on the center stand the lids lean more forward so you need to make sure the lids open properly while on the side stand.

Those limit straps are plenty strong I suspect no one has broke one, but the screws that are supposed to anchor them are way to weak., so far only the bottom screws on mine have broke but I'm sure the top screws will break someday.

Thanks for the explanation. I was actually thinking about changing the straps to nylon straps or cord that I could make whatever length I wanted and that would not stiffen up in cold weather.
