:Dhi Roge,
Can you give a few details about your usage? Wet/dry, pavement/ dirt, gravel, loose or packed, 2 up or 1 up, avg speed, your riding style, age, etc. This tire gets a lot of press and it may not fit everyone. Much appreciated. Thank you, scott

I had hung off saying anything until now as I had not used the bike in heavy rain, I recently rode a 350km ride in real heavy rain no problem. I use the bike for everything, commuting , touring and general riding. I'm not the fastest but keep up when I need to, but I ride alone a lot. I have found that I am cornering and riding quicker with these tyre and achieving better corner speed due to confidence in the tyres. I ride on plenty of gravel and some fire trails and whilst they are not K60s they seem much better than standard Tourance and earlier Anakees.
My last tyres on this bike were:
K60 - Last for ever (get bored before they wear out) noisy with a tendency to run wide.
K76 - Very average still noisy on the front.

I love my TKC70s, I ride 99% on road/street, the tyres warm up quick in wet or dry and provide lots of confidence, they ere great

Oh, did I mention mine have now covered 4000 +miles and look good for another 4000 !

I ride mostly solo and weigh in at 16 stones

TKC get a huge ::008:: from me

The Continental TKC 70's work very well on an S10, I heartily recommend them ::008::
Cheers 2112, what sort of mileage do you get from them? I`m not a miser, just want some predicatbility so I dont get too low when away. I have heard good reports on the TKC`s from pegs down type stuff to good wet performance so I`m open minded but have been using Metz Tourance NEXT (wont touch EXP) and Avon Storm 3`s on my BMW & old Tiger Sport. The Storm 3 are great at keeping there profile even when higher than normal motorway miles are clocked up, wet performance if really good too.

Re: Re: Avon Trailriders?

I've got 2,500 miles on the TKC70's now with fair chunk of that done on European Motorways. The rear profile is holding up surprisingly well with little wear, my guess is something in the region of 6,000 miles would be a reasonable estimate of lifespan. They are really good on gravel etc, just the ticket for Northumberland...

I ran a set of the TKC 70's and while I had them I used them hard one up 200 lbs with bags and LOTS of corners here in Western NC in the mtns. perhaps 10% on gravel roads... ok there... I'm not an off road rider so I go slower.

That all being said I only got 3,600 miles on that set... both were cupping really drastically. Very disappointing. I had thought I like them so much I had purchased another set early and now have them on. I took off the bags and am just running a tail box. I will see how these go. I need them to last until I leave for my trip from NC - Vermont - Canada - Nova Scotia. I'm looking at the Bridgestone Battlax A40 and the Michelin Pilot Road 4 Trail tires... also the Avon Trailriders. ???

YMMV

ADV has a couple of lengthy threads about them so I'm comfortable in saying that I was not alone in dis-liking the set I had, or the cupping leading to short life for the front. In fact, it's pretty rare to wear out front tires before rear, and the TKC70 is getting to be known for it.

I have just replaced the TKC's on my S10 after 15.400 km.

At that point the rear was starting to square off but still had plenty of thread left.
The main reason for replacing them was severe cupping/strange wear of the front tire. It was so bad that it caused significant vibrations in the handle bars at any speed and when breaking hard the front end was all over the place (without loosing grip).
For the entire life span of the tires they were very sensitive to longitudinal grooves and road markings - more so than any other tyre I've tried.

Grip was never an issue with the TKC 70's. In that regard they performed well both in dry and wet conditions.

The TKC 70's didn't do anything good for the handling of my bike and I will not buy them again.

I've got the TKC 70s on mine as well with about 1500 miles on them. The front is cupping pretty bad, and the rear is showing quite a bit of wear in the center. My observation is the 150/70-17 rear is too rounded if that is the word. What I mean is the tire is rounded to the extent that only the very center couple inches contacts the road. This also effects handling and makes it too sensitive to input on the bars. I run 36f, 41r for pressure, could lower the rear, may help on the pointy profile, but for sure the front is wearing so it will be a relatively short lived tire. I like the tire ok, but not a keeper.

The BAD:
I have had the TKC70's on for 4000 miles now and the front tire is extremely cupped. I have started to notice noise from the front related to the cupping. I am not feeling any ill effects however when cornering but it still worries me and is on my mind while riding.

The GOOD:
These tires grip! They grip on pavement like a sportbike tire. Very confident feeling in the twisties and I like to ride fast in the twisties. I came from a VFR800. They also are great on gravel roads. They don't drift around on loose gravel like the stock Bridgestones did.

They seem to grip fine in the little rain I have ridden. Can't get the TCS light to flash. I will be replacing the front with another TKC70 within the next month. Hopefully it will last until time to change the rear. Still plenty of tread left on the rear.

Damn, for a minute there I was really thinking that the TKC 70 would be the perfect next tire for me. A good mix of road / off road capability for me, good looks and I like continental as a brand. It seems like the negative reviews are almost as common as the positive reviews and the negative reviews are all very similar. Poor front tire wear, high speed instability and cupping.... Darn!

Now I am considering the Avon trail rider, Heidenau K76, the original Metzler Tourance and the Full bore M-40. I really like 80 / 20ish tires for the type of riding that I do and I think most of them look great on the S-10 and similar bikes.

Any suggestions for me?

Maybe a little too off roady for me? I don't really ride the S-10 hard off road. Too big, Too heavy, Too expensive and not enough ground clearance to give me confidence.

I ride about 90% road and 10% off road but prefer the 80/20 style tire because they give me more confidence off road without giving much up on road. I also prefer the looks of the 80/20 style of tires.

I was looking at Mitas' website, and they have a range of tires for our bikes. I would think the E08 may be more of what you're looking for, but I haven't seen any reviews on them here.

12,000+ on TKC70s now still plenty of life in them, has the front cupped well yes and I guess the front will be replaced first. Many tyres I have had have also cupped some Tourance and K60 produced vibration, it's not noticeable on the TKC70, so in my mind as a high mileage good grip tyre they are very good.
If you look at the front and say it's cupped therefore no good (which it is) on cosmetic appearance you are just missing miles.

Just a heads up, I have had some luck solving front tire cupping using higher tire pressures.

Most people run the front tire pressure at 35 or so psi for the S-10. The max pressure on the tire is 42 psi. Running 40 psi both front and rear could slow it down or stop it completely by making sure the tire is rock hard, all the way across the tread.

Of course YMMV but hey, you may want to give it a try....

I ran 38 front 40 rear and it cupped.
Sorry
