Hi

I put a set of Shinko's on my '16 S10 today. Had the pressure set to 40 (rear) 38 (front). I'm hoping to get at least 6,000 miles out of these and *maybe* this is the right pressure to do it. I'm about 240#s and ride mostly solo, but occasionally have a pilon rider. Attractive women always welcome !! Lol! Most riding is pavement, but I want to get that 15% in and see a little more of the world.

I really dislike the high price of motorcycle tires.. hoping these Shinko's have a value/wear quotient that is palatable. Or bearable..Keep getting the feeling we 2 wheeled folk are being gouged. $300 - 400 for 2 smaller tires feels invasive.

First thing I noticed out of the dealership was a strange sort of ~squiggly~ behavior from the rear tire and the front wanted to 'dive' into the turn. Whatever... probably re-iterating shit I read here... but realize there is a break-in period. However, the tires look awesome and that's gotta be worth something here ::018::

Headed to Big Bend in a few days to check it out in a few days. Ready for some peace and quiet :)

New tires always feel like they tip in easier than the flattened profile of a well used set. I'd agree with your 38 front pressure but would put 42 PSI in the rear to maximize mileage.

Thanks for the tip! I'll do that

I have yet to mount 705s on my ST but on my CB500X they were markedly more ‘tippy’ and responsive than any other new tire I’d used. It took a few miles to get to know them. I really liked them and can’t wait to put a set on the ST to see how they are on the big bike.

Agree that they seem to like slighty higher pressures.

I run the rear at 40 psi got 7k out of the last one and that was at the end of it's life.
The OEM Battlewings aren't so good for mileage. Rear needs to be replaced at 6000 and 2500 of that was slab from Portland to Texas. I was able to get 10000 miles out of the Conti Trail Attack 2's I had on the KTM 1290. That included a trip via Big Bend to Tucson and back to SW Florida.

It's amazing how different our experiences can be with the same tires. My OEM rear Battlewing was replaced at 10,860 miles but the front went all the way to 19,053 miles according to my maintenance spreadsheet. This included a fully loaded trip from SoCal to the Spokane area, commuting and probably 500 miles of dirt and gravel for the rear more like 1000 miles dirt and gravel for the front.

It might be important to note that these were the Super Tenere specific "e" code versions and that I run 36 front and 42 PSI rear all the time. I am not a slow rider but i try extremely hard to be smooth.

I went from the stock Battle Wings, in which I got 7000 miles out of the rear and 9000 miles out of the front, to the Shinzo 705. I find no noticeable difference the two tires. So far I have 5000 miles on the front 705 and about 3000 on the rear 705. It looks like I should have another few thousand out of the rear even more out of the front. For the money I really like the 705. I run mine both front and rear at 35 PSI… They stick really well in the curves!!!

We get around 5-6,000 miles from the 705s on the big Strom. We've learned to watch close when the tread is pretty worn, as they go from having tread to no tread really fast at the end. When they do and it's wet out they are treacherous.

Had the 705's on mine, and got about 9K miles out of them. Had a little more in them, but was going on a long trip and did not want to change mid trip. I keep them at 38/42, and for a 80/20 tire, I liked them. Good rain performance also.

Tire mileage veries so much because people leave them on longer than others. I ran a few shinkos on my Strom. In my opinion they are not worth the money.

This was the last one I ran. It was a few years back and they have probably gotten better since then .

How many years back? That was an issue when the 705 came out.
I have been using Shinko's for close to 10 years and never had an issue. The Ravens had a weird issue riding over painted road markers, they would slip and i mean you would feel it. On wet pavement they held like glue. 7k is as much as i ever got on anything rear mounted 40 psi front and back.
So why in MHO pay more :-\. You guys that can get 10-14k my hat's off to you.

It was a while back. Maybe 2014. I'll try to look for the pic on my computer and find out for sure.

Yeah about the time skins started ripping off the tires V-Strom's, BMW's and Tenere's big heavy machines..
I know you're not a fan of these but i have no problem for the price. Never had any blowing apart out of about 8 sets and 8 extra rears had only one flat, a tip of a utility razor stuck between the tread.
As i stated before no tire has passed the 7k mile test with me, so i just look at it this way why pay more?

I just like the tougher mitas. Honestly I like the way the shinko 804 / 805 handle on and off the road. That was when I had my Strom. For me ,they are just too soft. Shinko/ full bore for me are not a better deal than the mitas. I like to add ride on at each tire change so that adds 13.00 to the price of each tire.

I also CAN'T say I kept up with the air pressure on that rear shinko to be fair about it.
