Wow, lifting the Ténéré is a pain, you'll need a crane to lift a Venture.

Actually had it fall when my foot slipped on some sand while sitting still. Absolutely no damage but with the bags and lowers it does no go far. So very easy to get back up. Does not feel like half a ton.

Hey Bigbob, I see in this pic that there is upper crash bars attached to oem crash bars. I am interested in adding bars to my oem bars to protect to radiator etc. Are these aftermarket or a one/off fabrication. Anyone else who knows anything about this setup please jump in. Marshall

Hey Bigbob, I see in this pic that there is upper crash bars attached to oem crash bars. I am interested in adding bars to my oem bars to protect to radiator etc. Are these aftermarket or a one/off fabrication. Anyone else who knows anything about this setup please jump in. Marshall
I got them from Patrick G. Not sure where they came from.

In reading this post I know where the OP is coming from. 8 years if ownership and I feel the Tenere is starting to get a little heavy for adventure exploring on my own.
I now get the attraction of the BMW boxer motor as it can only tip over so far.

I had a Victory Vision and they have tip over points that only let the bike go to about 50 degrees. I laid it over in the garage one night on purpose to see if I could pick it up and it was fairly easy. I offed it for a Buell Ulysses and shed 400 pounds. Miss the big V-Twin of the Vision but not the weight.

Not true. I knew a guy that could get his 1150RT completely horizontal. He would drop it, and somehow . . . . completely on the front/rear crashbars with both tires off of the ground.

Both bikes have a point they rock on if so far over that the wheels leave the ground. The Tenere rocks on the bottom of the crash bars or the OEM plastic point made just for this.
I don't see the difficulty in lifting the Tenere, even for old guys like Ray and I.

The BMW rocks on the cylinders and yes the BMW can go well beyond resting on those.

We had already seen it a long time ago, but for a solo adventure, taking it,…could be the difference between coming home ... or being food for ants and fungi :) :)

Lifting the way the man in this video does put 10 times the amount of weight stress on his lower back than the weight he is lifting. Any one with a back injury young or old would not be able lift that bike like that and if they did they would feel it for several days after. I have that injury I am living with. I can lift my bike like that and have because there was no other way to get to it. It was not good for me. I have also found that the bike is much easier to lift if it is almost out of gas. I have had to lift it one time with the gas tank full. Talk about trouble. If I can get to it with my back straight I really have no issues lifting it even loaded up.

I have also found that the bike is much easier to lift if it is almost out of gas.
Since you mentioned this, not only is it easier to lift without gas….with little gas, it also handles much better….and the difference between “with and without” tank bag (with weight inside) is also very noticeable in handling

Well my problem isn’t when it tips over in my front yard when nothing is on the bike and I haven’t been riding for the last 250 miles.
It going up the decommissioned FS road that turns into the 45 degree uphill single track that I can’t make so I stop and the ABS kicks in and unlocks the front brake followed by crashing tank downhill on a late Sunday afternoon ride.
Or the 18” deep water crossing that the creek bottom is lined with bigger boulders than anticipated and the far shoreline is looser than expected but you have 50 pounds of camping gear and almost a full tank.

Then it starts getting harder to pickup and a lighter bike would be nice.

Yup. Ray and Karen were some of our originals and rode 2-up everywhere
