Looking forward to a great new riding season. After years of going cushy with hotel camping I’ve committed to getting back in a tent for most nights and keeping the hotels in reserve for long rain stretches or just an easy time.

Got a new Lone Rider adv tent and Big Agnes bag and pad. Really miss the stars, fire, food, quiet, and simplicity. Prior to hotels my camping style was discrete>dispersed and offered excellent solitude, so I’ll just pick up where I left off with that. All the better with running water nearby of course. Crampgrounds with amenities are a bit too much for my loner soul. Nothing wrong with them, just too communal for my preference.

Wherever I go I try to take the time to make nature recordings for play in ours and our families homes so hopefully I’ll record something other than mosquitoes in northern Canada in July. This year’s goals are Tuk, Yellowknife, and Caribou, ME. Also riding to the Pisgah forrest and Hendersonville to pay respects and place a stone at the resting place of my oldest and dearest friend who recently passed.

My S10 is a ’21 with just enough miles on it to have gotten passed the idiosyncratic stage and is raring to go as I am. New people, new places, new foods… Can hardly wait. That recent movie “Free Guy” gives me a chuckle every time I hear it. A friend gave me that moniker a long time ago because I usually offer to buy a beer for every acquaintance I make along the way. I hope to buy one for you.
