I mean the feels are real for me to run away from this beloved machine I've cuddled with for past 7 years.

Trading or selling I'm gonna take a huge hit with or without eqpt included.

TALK ME DOWN.!!
Life is short, if you get bored of a bike it's time to buy something new. When you take into account your 7 years of use, the "huge hit" shrinks considerably. Sell the accessories separately if you can't get what you consider to be a fair price with them included.

Several years ago, i had yamaha TT500, wich then changed to an Africa Twin 650, and it for a 750, and this for another 750. Study, marriage, work, house, i was few years without bike. Today i have S10 2018 ZE. I’m happy, but always ask my self, where will my TT500 be?....what i want to tell you, is that there is always a motorcycle that you do not have to sell, if like you, dies with you. Today, for me, not plan to sell this S10, i love it..if i want another, i ‘ll buy it...but S10 not for sale

Clarifying. If you like the s10 as motorcycles, change it for another more new s10. Each bike transmit sesations wich is no given to you for another, that’s was i mean

I'm in agreement with some of the earlier comments -- get the Tracer GT. It's received a number of tweaks and desirable upgrades over the original FJ.

100lbs less, and that motorrrrrrrr.

Life's too short.

You said talk you down. OK I will ---> get your butt down to the Yamaha dealership post haste!

I tried very hard to like the FJ09, but on the three test rides (fairly long--25 miles each) I was on, I came off disappointed. Wind management, so-so fuelling, a bit nervous feeling. The S10, I was on twice, and while it didn't make an enormous impact, it didn't do anything wrong, either. Through timing (and luck), I stumbled upon my mint '13, and every day, I like it a little more.

The one I'm really trying to get out of my system is the little FZ07, what a little jewel of a motor...

I also thought my FJ09 and FZ09 felt "nervous".

I actually liked my FZ07 better than my FZ09 and I like my SV650 more then my FZ07.APRIL2016 FZ07 5.jpgSV650 SNF 3.jpg

At the end of October I traded gen2 S10 in for Tracer GT, 0% finance over 3 years (UK) why not!
Best thing I ever did! S10 was a lovely bike and great cruiser but it was getting too big and heavy for my old bones!
GT has panniers which are big enough for me, it`s sooo light and that engine is a peach, feisty, torquey and sounds gorgeous!

how much is the trade in value of a 2012 tenere, could you find a good used bike that you could trust that does all the tenere does ? so the tenere could be the best used 2nd bike that you could ever find and trust and you already own it. and since it is paid for think of it as a free bike.

Go for it!
The 900 triple engine is intoxicatingly fun and the 100+ lb weight loss is very noticeable. But they are different bikes, so it depends on whether you want comfort, long distance touring ability, dirt road capabilities (S10) or corner carving, hot rodding, butt kicking performance (Tracer). I have both, and I love them equally.
Gary, now that you own both bikes, you don't think the Tracer GT would ever be a good long distance touring bike (assuming no off-roading is involved)?
I have been riding my 2014 S10 for over 5 years (75K kms) and now on the look out for a lighter replacement. I have a Ducati Panigale to satisfy my high-speed itches. :) So the bike I am looking is strictly for long distance touring with an upright riding position, cruise control, heated grips with at least a 100hp. I am willing to compromise shaft drive for 75-100lb weight loss.
I have ridden the FJ09 and know of the engine feels like (like street bike on steroids) and didn't think it was a contender for long distance travel at that time. But with the upgrades I thought new Tracer GT would be a decent touring bike. Appreciate your thoughts.

The Tracer GT is a good touring bike, but the Tenere is better. More leg room, bigger footpegs, better seat, larger luggage, softer suspension, longer fuel range, better weather protection, passenger comfort. All of these things can be improved with aftermarket accessories and modifications but stock for stock, if it's a long trip or cold/wet weather I take the Tenere.

Thank you. Valid points. Hoping to test ride the GT in spring and will decide.

From 2009 thru 2016 I had 2 Kawasakis, a KLR and a 900 lb Voyager touring bike and it was very obvious what their respective roles were. I traded the KLR for Super Tenere to get creature comforts for longer distance adventure riding and I found myself leaning more and more towards the Tenere for highway touring as well, and began to despise the Voyager for its' bulk and weight so began a quest to replace it after 9 years and 680,000 kms. The GT caught my interest and after a (non GT) test ride convinced me I had to have that gnarly little engine. My local dealer made me a smokin' deal to trade the well used Voyager so now I have 2 Yamahas!
I've tried to improve the GT with some touring amenities, taller/wider windscreen, larger footpegs, 50L trunk with backrest, bar riser, etc but bottom line is the GT is still way more fun than it is comfortable.100_2935.JPG
So with these 2 bikes to choose from, the Tenere has the long legs. But if my other bike was a Panigale I expect the Tracer would be an excellent tourer! :)

I hear ya Mark...that triple is THEE NUTS.

I rode back to back the MT10-MT09 yesterday.

Even with all the goodies on the MT10 the MT09 still was "the one"

BTW - the mirrors sucked on both bikes.

So I've got this awesome sinister black beast of a tarmac burner '12 Supa10 that I bought new VIN #277.

I've got all the cool kid tidbits installed on it including Parabellum screen, Aussie screen adjuster, wings, Jesse Bags, CBT rear rack, Hyperlights, Rigid light bar, etc etc etc

Why O' why do I have such a yearning for a MT-09..?

I did a tour in Europe on an FJ09, 4000 km. At first I really appreciated the lighter weight, much easier to push the bike around in a parking lot, but it soon became apparent, that unlike the SuperTen where I tend to ride it 4th or 5th gear in the mountains and just hit the gas whenever i needed more power thanks to the ample torque, on the 900 triple, you gotta downshift and keep the revs up.. it's a nice engine, I really liked it but for the kind of riding I was doing, Alps / Dolomites, I wished I had my S10 ES: much better suspension, and lots of low end torque without having to work thru the gearbox. And the wind protection on the S10 is superior. YMMV

Or buy a Tracer GT and have one bike for everything ... again.
nope.
yeah...ya know most of you stated "keep the S10" -- I am in agreement with you.

It's sorted out, I know every inch of it and it does EXACTLY what I intended to do with it.

So - yes - you are right.

I'll search for a close-by used scoot for 1000's less than new and be a happy cat just the same.

See....I didn't fall (*with your help*) did I...
Owned an FZ09, and FJ09..All while owning the Tenere.
I wouldn't sell and ADV bike and keep the triple as a do all bike. It can't do what I needed it to do.

word of warning on the FZ/MT-09.
-Shit ton of fun. The triple motor is imo the best motor in a long time
-Great ergos around town. Not so much for big days
-ABS as standard a plus
-2017 and on FZ/MT-09s had a big improvement in the TC settings. You can leave it in 1 and loft huge wheelies, but still have TC.
It's not on the fly like say an AT. Need to stop to turn off like the tenere. No biggie, as you would likely leve it in 1
-Tank range sucks balls! I ran out at less than 200km riding around town...120 miles. FJ/MT Tracer range is much better. 330km to a tank, call it 200 plus miles
-Suspension has come a long way from the FZ09/FJ09. The MT series has a decent full adjustment fork that could be re-valved re-shimmed at a low cost. I ended up buying drop in cartridges for my FJ. It was magic, but lots of dosh
-Rear shock sucks. It's terrible. Like a pogo stick when pushed. Again upgarded to a Yacugar on my FJ, and a penske on my FZ

Although they have issues, I'd buy a 2017 and up MT09 again. But for less than a 6th of the price, my beater SV will do just fine for now. With several key freebies from buddies (complete busa front end, zx-10r shock, and misc. items I stole...no borrowed from a trashed DL1000) the budget build is on errrmmm...budget, which is rare for me!
