I currently have a 13 with 12,500 miles and I’m thinking about upgrading to a 19 ES that is brand new. The difference is about $3000 more on the 19 and I was wondering if anybody would say it was worth the extra money to get into that newer bike. As it stands right now I love my 13 and it is the most reliable bike I’ve ever had.

If it were me, I'd think about it logically, consider the pros and cons and would then if I could afford it I would:-

GET OVER TO THE DEALERSHIP ASAP AND BITE THEIR HAND OFF BEFORE THEY CHANGE THEIR MIND

For $3000 you are getting a new bike which is 7 years younger with ESA, cruise control etc as standard plus all the small refinements Yamaha have made between 2012 and 2019. All the bearings, seals etc are new as are the consumables such as brake pads and tyres etc. All this plus (probably) a warranty.

Wish I could find a deal like that

Obviously, only my opinion

Yes ..make the change. if you like the S10, upgrade without hesitation. It's like upgrading your wife. If you like your wife ... and for u $ 3000 they offer you your same wife, but with 10 years younger (and a reset button)... it would be a good deal:):)

I traded my 12 for a 19 , I miss the 12 at times . the 19 has heated grips ,love it . cruise control , love it . 19 seems to get better milage than the 12 . the riding modes ,well you can tell the difference on the 19. 19 stock windshield is better than 12 stock , but you will still probably want something better. the way the 12 makes power is different than the 19 to me . the 12 is grunt king , torque from weigh down low . and maybe I'm wrong about the 19 as at almost a year of riding it im not quite bonded with it (1500 miles in one year is the problem , did that on the 12 in the first month) if I were looking at either I would buy the 19 . its just more modern and I think my prejudices are I've not ridden it enough . I did a 1200 mile trip a month ago , cruise and heated grips where awesome . my 12 found a good home in the Dallas area so im happy. the 19 for some reason im just not in a hurry with . I feel comfortable with it , it will be around for a long time . buy the 19.

Every time I get off the 12 onto the 17 I tell my wife "this bike doesn't have as much bottom end torque" Then a while back I had my son-in law take my daughter for a ride on the 17 and the first thing he said when they got back was "this bike doesn't have as much torque off idle" He owns a 12 Tenere. It's funny that you have about the same feelings about your two Tenere's as I do, I have had a lot longer harder time feeling addicted to riding the 17 but every time I do ride it I like it and it's a great bike.

You actually found a dealer that’s willing to make the trade for only $3,000 am I reading this right ?
If that’s true I would say it would be a pretty simple decision, make the trade ASAP !!!

The money is right, and the features are nice.

I bet with the right flash the 19 would do just fine.

I have a 13 tenere and ive been asking myself the same thing, but decided that im gonna ride this one till the wheels fall off, then put them back on and keep riding.

Wow $3,000 sounds too good to pass.
Yamaha dealers around here are asking $18,999 for a 19 Tenere and they are not big sellers around here so usually 1-2 in stock at dealers only. Even had one dealer tell me they are not worth stocking.
I have a 19 and i cannot imagine my dealer giving me $15-16g on my 19 let alone a year 13 gen1.
Your crazy not to jump on that.

BTW, my buddy bought a 16 in June that sat at the dealer for nearly six months, he paid $9,000 for it, your getting a screaming deal on your 13. The market must be different in your area.

Sounds like a pretty good deal, however at $3000/12,500mi you are running $.24/mi in depreciation. Therefore, I would get the new one AND ride it more!

Definitely go for it. I was going to say that you can trade all of your goodies from the '13 to the '19. But, then I realized that was probably one of the reasons that it was only $3K difference. The dealer is keeping all the farkles. I'd still do it. . . . for the above listed reasons.

JUST DO IT! Traded my '12 almost a year ago for a NOS '18 and haven't looked back. Although the basic bike is the same, the incremental improvements are nice to have plus I got the dealer to include a YES at a decent discount.

Good luck!

Exactly a year ago I traded my '17 ES with 61,000 miles for a new '19 ES for $5000 and I thought I got a great deal. I'm going to go out on a limb and say when push comes to shove the dealer won't do this deal. Please keep us updated. Sounds too good to be true.
