well I know this is going to go against the grain but I changed it back and........

I read the seat forward tilt problem threads with interest and as usual with the internet I realized I had a problem I never noticed existed 3 mins earlier and probly never would have noticed had i not read the thread, so with haste i pulled out the rubber stoppers and replaced them with thin felt pads re fitted my seat and thought hey its fixed that problem i never knew i had!

so for the next four or five weeks I rode around (approx 3000 miles) griping about how bad the seat was and how i hated the non slip surface as it kept pulling me undies and junk around all over the show! now I have never been an aftermarket seat guy or even a custom seat guy but I hated what this seat did to me so much i ordered a Russell!

then yesterday morning (my day off) Id already shipped the stock seat off but had ordered a new stock seat so i could ride in the meantime so i grabbed it and threw it on the super ten but forgot to remove the rubber bungs, did 300 miles yesterday and never noticed how crap the seat was once, I didn't have to tug my undies out my arse or yank my tackle back into place at all!

turns out the stock seat with the forward tilt works for me! removing it makes me slouch bad leading to a sore lower back and a rocking back and forth when i shift that does all kind of uglies to the inside of me trousers that just isn't nice at all! the "forward tilt" seems to make me sit up and not rock or slouch and puts the weight of me where i want it, over the bars so when i accelerate I'm not hanging on so much but leaning into it!

so I fell for the very thing I always larf at people for, reading too much on the internet ::024::

::015:: Here, here. If I wear compression shorts and avoid mesh riding pants, the stock seat with the mod and I get along quite well also.

Simple Beadrider solved my problem for long distance but locally without it I tend to slide forward a little and even if that were not enough I still hate the gripper cover. I am waiting on Sargent to do something before I procede with any modifications. The Sargent on my DR650 is the best seat I own and it has some serious long mile stints on it and what makes it even more incredible is it's on a DR650 which is not exactly a long haul bike;D

I have not done the seat mod, yet.

However just cam back from a 300 mile sight-seeing trip up in the mountains...and that forward cant of the seat was a real 'ball-buster' coming down steep mountain roads...the seat was forcing me into the tank. Most uncomfortable! I'm modding the seat tomorrow!

Since I also ride real dirt bikes that have Gripper covers, I have come to appreciate them and the one on the ST.

The seat is still uncomfortable - to soft. I'll see what the seat bumper mod does for comfort, but I think a Corbin is in my future!

I did the mod... sort-of. I pulled the bumpers and stopped there.

For me, the saddle is a problem. I can't ride 200 miles without getting monkey butt. After removing the bumpers I can ride 400 miles with reasonable comfort. I'll probably replace the saddle when I get a chance.

After putting some miles on her this weekend, I can kinda/sorta see an issue with the front part of the seat, but I never felt like I was being pushed into the tank. I'm thinking the foam lets yer arse sink too deep over time and then puts pressure in the crotch area. I'm also thinking that a better mixture of foam will do the trick. No hurry for me though..I've had much worse stock seats. My last bike's seat was reworked by Renazco Racing and it made a world of difference... but the stock seat on that bike was a torture rack when compared to the S10. Since the S10 could technically be called a 'dual sport,' I think I'll drop an email to James Renazco to see if he'd be willing rework S10 seats. One of the things he says makes the most difference is matching seat foam compression to rider weight. I know for sure that at 150lbs soaking wet I'm having nowhere near the issues some of you 'normal-sized' people are. In the meantime, try standing on the pegs every now and then...it's quite refreshing just to 'kewl the jewels' if nothing else 8)

Yeah, I suppose everyone's situation is a bit different though. After owning a couple of liter bikes then dropping to a 250 motard for a few years due to an accident and subsequent rehab, I'm back on a larger bike. Needless to say, I'm more that satisfied with the power and could care less about winning a drag race. To each his own though.

I dunno... My back seems to hurt on the SuperT regardless if I have the seat mod in place or not. I hate the gripper surface and it is too soft. I'm wating on a Sargent........

Yeah, I'm sure a lot of people are waiting to hear your results. I personally dont have many ploblems with the seat, but, if had to produce a negative, I'd say it's a tad on the soft side.

I had Rich's in Seattle add a gel insert before heading out for the recent YellowSTone trip. Over the four days and 1900 miles I had zero "hotspots" or uncomfort on the arse. I am happy.

I agree with the stock seat being soft as well. However, i picked up the yami low seat and found that the foam was much firmer as well as and inch lower, higher density for sure. I did the seat mod with the low seat and like it alot. Since i picked it up at ysp, it was 180 bucks, a cheap date and excellent roi, also have the stock to send to richs in seattle if I choose too.

forgot to mention, I slapped on my 50 buck black alaska sheepskin but pad from one to the other.....no monkey here....

yep rode just over 100 miles to work this morning in sucky interstate construction traffic and back roads and i must say not having the "seat mod" works better for me, altho i now think the seat is too soft for me but i might just be over thinking it now!

Please tell me more...So Rich's didn't build a new seat, they just inserted gel? What is the cost of this?
Thanks.

I have been reading all these threads about the angle of the seat and I think about it while riding, and I can't feel any of these problems. The seat doesn't push me into the tank at all. I run it in the high position and it's quite comfortable. Not wild about the gripper material, but I can live with it.

I never had any issues with the stock DL1000 seat either. I think that when the rest of the ergos are right, it's easier to live with any seat. It probably also helps that I don't sit on my jewelry. ;D

Tumac, yes they used my original vinyl cover, they cut some out to make room for the gel, stapled back together and shipped it back. $175! I told them I didn't want the seat any taller, nor shorter, but it did end up a little more like a bowl. It to me is comfy, more than any other seat I have had in past.

For those that don't like the gripper material, you might check with a local upholstery shop. I had one make and install a replacement cover in plain vinyl for $35. Personally I think gripper seats are fine for dirt bikes, but not for adventure touring bikes with the accent on touring.
