The Tenere has never been that planted to the surface and solid feeling with that much load. With 4,000 miles on the tire now it is about 1/2 gone. If the wear slows down for the last 1/2 I could be pretty pleased with the 07+ overall.
I think I'll be putting another 07+ on again.
I'll be real interested to get your updated take on the + when I see you in Colorado next month. Do you think you'll be leaving them on for that trip?

My mileage record with the E07 Dakar was the Alaska ride where the first 7K miles was fully loaded (not 2-up) and 98% pavement. That rear went over 10K miles. Never had any tire come close to that mileage for me.

My most recent E-07 Dakar rear was less than 1mm away from the wear bars at only 6K miles. That one experienced much more enthusiastic riding off pavement riding.

Longevity is always a primary concern whenever heading out on a long trip.

I'm planning on Colorado but it all depends on how busy I am at work when the time comes.
I'm their only employee so you know how that may go.
My 2012 needs a new tire so I'll be taking the 4,000 mile 07+ off the 17 and putting it on the 12. I'll be on my 12 in Colorado.
I like having new tires on the 2017 for traveling because my wife is always on it with me. The 12 gets the handmedowns.

Makes total sense.

I'll be interested in whenever you finish off that + tire. With all my leftover Dakars to go, I suspect you'll have that + worn out before I'm in the market again.

While this is a thread about the E07, It's important for fellow riders to know that these are not the best thing since sliced bread. It's just got a lot of internet craze that has people buying them. As I've stated many times tire longevity should have no bearing on choosing a tire. And as you have stated you want a good performing tire that lasts. If it works for you that's fantastic.
Ok my last word here. It is not internet craze, it is proven performance. I have logged over 115,000 miles with Mitas E-07 Dakar's on my Tenere. Lots of off pavement, some true off road and even some single track (loaded and 2 up at that). Tires alone never put me on my ass, not even once. Plenty of people on this forum have comparable miles and experience to mine on these tires also.

How many miles have you rode on an E-07 Dakar on your Tenere? I think that answer is zero or very close to it. So tell me who is believing the internet over first hand experience now? And your Africa Twin buddy is not first hand, not a Tenere and not even the same tire size.

Thanks Steve. I am lucky as I have a fairly fresh set of Dakar on and a new rear ready.

I got 22k out of the last front using 2 rears. So I am good for a year or two.

And if Bob and my brother let me spend time on their boats may get 3 years!

Hey buddy, you're correct as in zero. This guy basically trash talks a tire (E-07) he's never ridden while so many here who have ridden them tell otherwise. I've come to the conclusion he's full of it. I'm on knobbies now and have done some pretty good off-road stuff. I'd trade them for some E-07 dakars right now. AND, I've ridden both. Hey, if there was a "perfect" tire, we'd all be using the same tire.

Come on pal, no one is talking trash about yours or anyone else's choice of tire. I don't need to ride on a tire that I know will not work for my style (and many others) type of riding. True there is no perfect tire. Just as we all are of different riding abilities. When I'm at an off road desert rally and see only one guy with a E07 and everyone else is running "big block" knobby's, I would say that's a pretty good indicator of what works off road. I also went to an off road riding school and you cannot even attend the class without knobby's mounted.

I'm just giving my point of view. It's no different than all those people that base jump. I have never done it but can confidently say it's not such a good idea for me and many others. This is not the best comparison but you get the idea.

At some point I may even try the E07. But for now the knobby tire has everything I'm looking for in a tire that will reasonably keep me safe when I hit those difficult sections I come across.

I have less than one page on my Michelin Wilds thread and did my best detailed breakdown on what the good and bad points of the tire are.

OTOH, in the 8 pages of this thread not one person has discussed the detailed handling characteristic of this tire. All I hear about is how long it lasts. In fact that seems like the most important thing about this tire. How about some of you experienced guys come on here and give a description of the good and bad of this tire. How does it do in sand? Does it drop into ruts and stay or crawl out of them? Mud grip and do the treads clean out? Deflection in rocks (and what size of rocks)? Cornering/grip in the rain? Braking? Slow speed handling? Noise?

@ballisticexchris I was going to say that your comments about how the E07's work wasn't true, but then I realized I put most of my comments in the "lowsided" thread.

- I'm not a fan of the E-07 rear as a road tire for spirited riding, as it doesn't suit my riding style (i.e. leaned over, leg out, motard style) and spins up constantly, TCS light flashing
- To be fair, I'm comparing it to the Anakee III where I never had this situation
- I've had a couple of truly dicey situations because of it (Ran 3 of them, E-07, E-07 Dakar, E-07+), behaviour is the same.
- For offroading, I like the tire. Note: I like running logging roads, tight stuff on a 600 lb bike doesn't make a ton of sense. I live where there isn't a lot of sand
- I do think that longevity matters in some circumstance, ex. I'm planning to take off in early July to go North, hopefully all the way to Tuk, and I don't want to swap tires on the trip. So having something that can do gravel, some mud, lots of highway is important.
- To this end, I'm going to try the MotoZ Tractionator GPS as I've heard good things about it.

I've also read a ride report yesterday (on the big ADV site ;) ) where guy was commenting about the E-07+ and what he personally experienced riding to Tuk & back and heard / saw from others. The E-07+ simply doesn't last as long and a lot of people are upset.

Let's face it, a bunch of folks love the old version because they lasted so long and were decent at a number of things (just not right over on the edge ;) ).

I realise this is somewhat off the immediate topic but with reference to some of the related conversations occurring under the heading; the difference when choosing a more aggressive tyre design is most certainly noticeable when riding off-trail (trail blocked by fallen tree, washed out, or more often than one would think here is Aus, simply disappears), riding really fast & aggressively or you really need them to have strong carcasses for puncture resistance (again, when off-trail trying to find the trail). This is where I find Mitas and Motoz really perform.

My e07+ rear is still going strong after about 2500 miles or so. I like the tire so far, its as good as the previous version, t looks good and I like the fact it has no center rib since I do a good amount of off road riding.

I bought a set of those AX41 tires since the price can't be beat, but I have a feeling I'll be back to at least the Mitas rear. Have not found a front tire I love yet.

I have a 2018 Super Tenere, large Jesse side bags. One up 50/50 riding.
Both tire at 3700 miles:
rear e0-7+ Dakar...bald center
front e07 Dakar... has some life left.
Thought I would get more mileage out of them!!!15652131876887620850908782105819.jpg15652138700409157280707745630029.jpg

My rear Plus looked like that at about 4k. It wasn't the Dakar though. Disappointing.

What tire pressure. Run mine at 40 and got 22k on front with 2 rear. New set on and have a rear in the garage!

Was that on the new Plus or some of the originals? I've not read of anybody going over 5k on the new Plus rear 150.

I run the recommended 33 front, 42 rear. Only time I air down is if needed off road, but i carry a 12v pump and air up when going back on the road. Until today I didn't realize I have the plus version on the rear.
I have the e0-7''s Dakar (no plus) on my KTM 690, too early to give a milage review and the bike weighs 330 lbs, half of the Tenere.

I just took my rear one off.
I got 6480 miles on it. was just about down to the wear-bars.
Not a lot of traction in the dirt at that tread depth though........spun up real easy.

Put on a new E-07+ Dakar rear and a new E-07 Dakar front. I took off from KY fully loaded for a long trip. Camping gear tools clothes and some food. Made a big loop of the south west in 100 degree heat. Then up the Rockies in Colorado. Went into Wyoming then over to the black hills and into Sturgis South Dakota. After a couple days there took off on a hard run home. Knocked off over a 1000 miles the first day then a short 300 second day to the house. I had about 4500 miles on the tires. The rear is about half gone. Not bad i thought for what it is. the front looks good but it was junk before i even started. It has a defect of some kind. I shakes from 30 to 40 miles per hour and again at 60. below 20 it squirms the handle bars left and right. I took it off and put the old tire back on the front of the bike as soon as i got home. All is right again. I would have gave a bit of a review of the E-07+ but the front was handling so bad i could not give a fair evaluation of the rear tire. All i can say is it held up well with a full load on it. did a lot of rain and cool weather though so that may attest to the longevity of the tire to this point.
