I just got back from Arizona, and now have 5000+ miles on my set.
I'll measure the tread when I get home and post up how they are.
The rear is not worn-out yet, but it is getting down there.

OK, here is the latest on my E07+ Dakar rear, and E07 Dakar front

This set now has 5463-Miles on them. Mostly pavement (about 95%)

Front measures 4mm of tread left to the center-strip

Rear now also measures 4mm of tread left in the center.
IMG_4622.JPG

The front wear-rate seems to have stabilized a little.
The rear seems to be wearing consistently the same.

They started out NEW at:
6.3mm of tread in the center for the front tire.
11mm of tread in the center of the rear.

I have gotten an average of:
2375-miles per mm of tread-wear on the front tire.
780-miles per mm of tread-wear on the rear.

Given the 4mm of tread left on both tires, if I run them until "Bald" (I won't), I should expect:
an additional 9500-miles out of the front tire.
an additional 3120-miles out of the rear tire.

Regardless of how many miles I ride it this summer, I'll be changing the rear tire before August (I'm planning on riding some of the Passes in the San-Juans, and some of the COBDR with a couple friends in August)

Hi there Alan, you might find that tread life will increase slightly as the tire wears. As the tread flattens out you will have more rubber on the pavement thereby wearing slower.

I've always been hard on rear tires, on all my bikes. I'm not really unhappy with the wear-rate of the E07+.
Compared to the rear tires on my FJ1200, this one is wearing like iron! ;)

For how good they used to be, that's terrible.
From what I've been reading on the various forums, it seems the new style E07+ doesn't get nearly the tread-life as the older style that it replaced. I've never had the old style, so I don't have anything to compare it against.

I'm actually considering putting a 140/80-17 (older style) E07-Dakar on the rear as my next tire.
It is also a Tubeless design, and carries the same "69T" load/speed rating as the 150/70-17 E07+
They have them in stock locally, and Mitas still makes them in that size.
The reason I'm considering it is because I like the "More Aggressive" tread design of the older style.

So now what...? I've been a huge fan of the E-07 Dakar. Sounds like they've ruined that longevity of that one. That really sucks. I'm going to need to replace my current rear Dakar before my trip in a few weeks. Have no idea what to go with next.

I was tired experimenting with different tires and was happy sending all my money to Mitas for the E-07 Dakar. I really hate the idea I need to start experimenting again.

I guess we weren't buying tires often enough for Mitas to be happy with the customer loyalty they had.

Maybe, but I doubt they are going to be happy with our response to their attempts to increase sales. I know I'm now looking for offerings from other manufactures. That not going to up their sales numbers. This is annoying.

Yes, it's always annoying when you find a great tire combo and are happy, then it goes away and the new and 'improved' tire doesn't hold a candle to the old version.

Conti Road Attacks were great sport-touring tires. The Road Attack 2 had half the tread life of the original.

Avon Azaros were my favorite sport touring tire for the FJR. I'd have kept buying them forever. Boom, no longer offered in the FJR size one day. Nothing else came close to getting the 12k I got from the rear Azaros. In desperation to have money to go riding instead of spending that money on tires, I put a car tire on my FJR and started getting 35-40k miles from rear tires again.

Michelin PR2s held up really well. Fronts wore a little peaky for my taste, but nothing horrible. PR3 sucked. (I got 6800 miles from a PR3 Trail and it was to the cords. PR4s are barely ok. PR5s are unknown.

Now with the Mitas E07 Dakar original gone in our sizes, I may return to a CT again once the set of Bridgestone battlewings I just spooned on are done. I got these tires when I bought the bike with 2300 on it, took them off for E07s when I got home from the fly and ride at 3300. 17k on the E07s, then on to a set of pure road tires, Pirelli Angle GTs. Got 10k miles from those.

I'm not hard on tires, but it's laughable that most moto tires can't even get a reliable 10k miles from rears. Bias Ply 50/50 tires do better. K60s at least gave me 12k or better from the rears. 20k plus from the fronts.

My right wrist seems to be very hard on back tires. I've never had more than 8K out of a K60. It's one of the reasons I like the E-07 Dakar so much.
My Alaska tire lasted 10K miles. That's record long distance for me.

Looking at my current rear with only 6,500 miles and I'd be shocked if it made it to 8K miles. This one has seen a lot more of me riding like me..

I think running the E07 Dakar in 140/80 is what I will do, but I'm sure it won't be long til they quit the E07 in all sizes. I can't imagine why in the world they went to E07+ as their offering in the E07.

I'm leaning that way too....either that, or the K60s.

Guys, Send Mitas an email telling them what you think of the new e07 compared to the new version. I did. Haven't heard anything back but, the more who send the more likely they are to listen.

I did that thru their contact link on their web site. I don't expect much. LINK Hard to have much of a comment with only 250 words.

Parts of their marketing blurb are pretty much just a lie, concerning the E07+.

I have ordered a set of E07+ for my 2017 bike, but my dealer has trouble sourcing the front tire. Somewhere in some thread I recall reading that at 120/70 would fit on the front. Has anyone tried that yet or is it just speculation?

As tire wear goes, I'm on the OEMs and about 12 500 kms in (about 7700 miles), and my front tire is ready for retirement. Balding at a quicker pace than my scalp and nicely scalloped (yes, I brake in turns, in western Norway we don't have straight roads).

Good job guys. Based on what I've been reading, I bet sales are down on the E07 version of the tire and I think that's what will get their attention. My latest set of tires are the new Bridgestone AX41 adventurecross. They're just ok. I'd much rather have the old E07's. Hopefully they come back when I'm ready for my next set of tires.

I've been doing research on what's out there and I don't see anything that is a better option than getting a K60 for the next trip. High mileage, and known performance. It's the tire my previous Tenere was wearing when I rode through Hurricane Irene, so not really worried about the "bad in wet" bugaboo you hear referenced. I was reading my notes on that hurricane tire and it went 8,400 miles and earned a note of "performed very well in all conditions."

I'd much rather be putting on a fresh E-07 Dakar, but Mitas says I'm not worth it.
