Mitas E0-7 review
I put a set of E0-7s on my 2013 S10 2 weeks ago and thought I would give my input. I bought them because Bret at Mototrek said they were the best adventure tire out there, great mileage and traction. After I put them on I went for a test ride and on my second turn, pulling away from a stop sign with a little throttle they stepped out on me and left a 3 foot long banana shaped black mark on the road. This was on totally dry pavement with only minimal throttle, I have broken in many sets of new tires and have never had one be that slippery, just saying be careful for a bit. On the rest of the test drive I was super careful and drove cautiously, I noticed that they turned in on corners much better than the 6000 mile o.e. Battlewings ever did. I was always surprised at how hard the S10 was to get to turn in, once it did it was fine but it took a bit of effort, now it turns in effortlessly and tracks great going down the road. Today after putting 300 miles on them I went on a 100 mile road trip that was about 50% dirt, jeep trails , dirt roads, single track, rocks , sand , mud, pine needles, these tires handle it all very well. I had a 2007 V-strom 1000 before my S10 and it came with TKC 80s and I put Shinko 705s on it before I sold it, the E0-7s were as good if not better than both of those tires. There are 2 areas where somebody might find fault with E0-7s, on grooved concrete highways they do wander a little, not terribly but it is slightly noticeable and they do have a little whine to them, more like "Hey, I can a hear a noise that wasn't there before", not "OMG, I need to get some ear plugs'.So if they get the mileage that everyone says they will , I don't see me ever getting another tire than these, the TKC 80s wore out way too fast and the Shinkos weren't really aggressive enough and had a gyroscopic effect that felt like a steering damper turned up to 10.I had originally intended to get the Dakars , which I read had a few more belts in their carcasses and were harder too change, but I screwed up when I ordered them, maybe I will try them next time. The regular E0-7s were not hard to change at all, unlike some of the comments I had heard.Brett had said that the E0-7 was a skinnier tire than most others and if you like a big beefy looking tire this one might not be for you, I don't see that , it fills up my swingarm nicely and looks tough as hell, front and rear. The step out on my initial test drive is always in the back of my head , but as I have gotten some more miles on them I have started to corner as hard as I have dared on any other tire I have owned and they handle it just fine. So in conclusion I would give them a 9.5 out of 10 and I will buy them again.

Nice write up. Just to clarify, E07+ or E07? They are different tires and for a while, the E07+ replaced the E07, but then they both became available again.

The sticker on the tires said E0-7, I had heard that the E0-7+s wore faster , so I purposely bought the original E0-7s.

I have run 3 sets of the E07's. 2 of the old style E07 and 1 of the new + version. 1 old version set was to Alaska and back from Colorado. I got about 12k out of the rear and the front. The + version is going to lucky to get to 6000 miles on the rear. The front is still going strong. A buddy got one of the old style E07 rears after running the + version. His first impression was that the old one was more squareish than the new one was.

Look at post #307, Mitas (the actual tire company), posted about the difference between the original and the plus version, including what your buddy said.

i was skeptical of e0+ tire, but put one on the back for the winter. it has done mostly street, but did me well enough this week in the mountains of new mexico. it will be completely worn out at 6000miles. (most would replace at 5k and I don't usually have good mileage on tires.)

i only used the rear tire. but I'm thinking about using it again for 50/50 trip in July. ill probably pick something more aggressive for the front though.

I cant find the original e07 in the recommended size

This is the E07 Dakar [I think it's a Dakar but not sure ] on the rear of my bike right now.
18,020 miles. I know it's pretty much gone but unless I feel a trip coming up soon I'm not done with it yet. I think it might run another 1,000.

Did this thread mention anywhere that they re-released the original E07? They realized they really stubbed their toe on that design change. My Plus made 5xxx some-odd.

Both models have their appropriate and different uses. Need offroad performance, get the plus. Need mileage for a longer trip, get the original. I do squeeze 7k out of the plus, and got 10k with the original. I do prefer the plus for the riding I do, but would switch to the original rear if I were riding a trip > 7k.

Now see, I went the opposite line of thought. The Plus has a lot of larger contact patches for road use and the original has a whole lot more cutting edges for grip off road. Mileage performance throws things off, but the design shows through. If they could have had the same mileage performance on the Plus for the more road oriented rider I think they would have had a winner. Maybe sooner or later.

Bigger open gaps give me better off road performance. I think the plus may be a softer compound too. The original also has the center ridge, which once the tire is worn about halfway, provides longer mileage but less offroad grip.

It is a bit confusing given Mitas's own documentation. The E-07 is actually listed as their 50/50 tire and they advertise the plus as 60/40. Personally I would reverse the rating. Their description indicates better dry traction and flickability for the plus which may be why they rate it more street oriented. This combined with lower mileage would indicate to me it is more compound related. Other reviews I've read indicate the original is narrower, and the plus is wider and more rounded.

The manufacturer explains this in his posts very clearly. The + is also much rounder and therefore turns way better. I suggest reading those posts. Or contacting directly via the “start conversation” button. I have done that personally and they answer quickly.

Stefan.

I pretty much agree with everything holligl said.
I still feel that the + is a far better tire front and rear at everything. [except the rear + Dakars that I have run only lasted 10,000 miles]
I'm just not a good enough off road rider to be able to say one is better than the other off road. I have never had any problem with either one of them off road. Maybe if I could switch back and forth in the same ride maybe then I would prefer one over the other. The + is a way better tire on road than the original, front and rear. The + is so superior to the original when heavy loaded two up that I just can't risk running the originals on our 2017 because my wife rides on that one with me.
Mitas needs to keep developing their tires and keep moving forward because they have great tires in these E07s

New nickname for Steve: M&M - Mellow & Modest.
Pretty sure the reason he's never had problems off road is because he is definately a "good enough" rider.
(Mellow relates to his love of Touring mode and ability to get twice the mileage on his tires that most of us get.)

Must be a split personality in Steve’s bike. I’ve seen it teach triple digit speeds, pass multiple cars at will, and go like hell. I just thought he had to get back to camp to poop.
