I have new front and rear, when I saw the front I thought the shop mounted it backwards.......took a bit to figure it out. The goofy arrow is to foreign for me......but both front and rear arrows are pointing forward.

Is there a different thread for the Mitas E07+ tires?
Looks like the E07 is being phased out in favor of the E07+. I wouldn't mind a set of E07+ but the front is not offered in 110/80-19. The original E07 is still available in that size but the rear (150/70-17) isn't. So I'm left with the proposition of E07+ rear with E07 front. I'm thinking the difference doesn't matter as tread patterns for front and rear tires of different sizes aren't identical anyway.
Is anyone running that combo or have any comments about it?

To answer my own (1st) question - New Mitas E07 thread

Damn road debris on the highway commuting home in the dark. Not sure if it was a brick, piece of wood, or rock, but typical crap that falls off the contractor trucks around here. The tire was brand new, hadn't even worn off the mold tits, and is split right to the fibers.

I am running that combo and have about 1k miles on it so far and have had zero issues to date.

Checkwecks, count your bessings 1 tire couple of hundred bucks. I am still getting bills 9 month later for a trip to the emergency room, non bike related. They are like weeds. You think you got them all, then new ones pop up. Don't know why we carry insurance. You still got to pay, or they trash your credit. One tire no problem as long as you did not wreck. Looks like your rim got dented. A rim shop could probably repair,
Thanks for the sentiment and good luck with your real injuries. A new Dakar tire cost me a whopping $107 (cashed in a few credits), so no biggie. I'll check the rim run-out when putting the new one on, hopefully Friday evening.

Man that sucks...thank God no ambulances were involved. S-10 wheels are tough!

You can see where the tire deflection polished the edge of the rim. Will be interesting to see internal damage. Glad you are talking about it man!

Replaced it last night and yes, the inner liner showed the contact of the sidewall faces in the fold. The nylon plies in the sidewall are probably fine but I sure didn't want to chance that they might not be. Besides, when nylon fibers are exposed to pollution and possible UV, like in the crack the photo shows, the nylon will age really fast in a nice line and the sidewall could suddenly unzip. That'd be really fugly.

Nylon exposed to sunlight quickly loses half its strength. In my previous life nylon and it’s integrity often was the difference between life and death. Good call.

Dakar twi ? My Dakar’s now have 10,000 miles on them, to me it seems like there is still plenty of tread left but I’m wondering about the Mitas tire wear indicators it’s a long ways to go before mine will be hitting those wear indicators and it’s seems like if it was hitting those indicators the tread would be worn way more than what would seem acceptable to me ? Maybe Mitas twi work different than other brands ?

I just removed my rear EO7 Dakar. It took me trouble free to Tuktoyaktuk and back plus local riding. It is not yet at the twi bar but it is quite squared off, I had a new old stock EO7 sitting here so decided to replace it.
I don't see twi bars on the front Dakar, but the blocks are not yet worn to the centre bar so I'm running it for a while longer. I expect it will go 40k.image.jpeg

You're fine, the wear indicators work just like you expect. The Dakars just last. I got 17k miles out of my last rear. Mostly road, maybe 15% off pavement. Run them until the rear really flattens out and you are at the twi and you'll be in no danger of failure. It really becomes a matter of what riding you're doing and your comfort level. If I was riding more off pavement, I'd probably have changed out the rear sooner, but not hugely sooner. YMMV, literally.

Wow if my calculations are right 34,000 kilometers would be well over 21,000 miles ! Yes by looking at the picture my 10,000 mile Dakar rear has considerably more tread than yours but I can’t imagine it making another 11,000 miles. I will be trading my 2013 in for a new 2018 with ES but when those tires are worn out I will most likely be buying another set of Dakar’s they have worked very well for me.

I just removed my rear EO7 Dakar at 32,000 kms. It took me trouble free to Tuktoyaktuk and back plus another 17k of local riding. It is not yet at the twi bar but it is quite squared off, I had a new old stock EO7 sitting here so decided to replace it.

I get around 10k miles on a rear. Last front went 21k+ with 2 rear.

Both replaced this spring at Romney and have one more Dakar rear.

I've got a little over 8000 miles on my E07's (the old version), with about 90 percent of that mileage from two up loaded touring. Still have tread, but they're starting to vibrate a little, especially the rear. Kind of like the way the Shinko 705's do when they get cupped. I'll keep running them until springtime, I think; rotator cuff surgery kind of put the skids on my ability to change tires for a little bit.
