The first Honda Gold Wing was flawed but distinctly special

My understanding was that, oddly enough, it was supposed to be marketed as a cafe racer.
Wouldn't surprise me. Yamaha offered up the FJ 11/12 as a track bike. Decided that it was wa-a-a-ay to heavy, and turned her into a sport tour, which, as we know is where she shines. And Honda made the CBX to take the top speed record from Suzuki. That didn't work, so they tried to market the CBX as a sport tour. That too was a bomb.

Manufacturers back then seem a lot more "brave" with designing some bikes. Everybody had turbo bikes, some better than others. Suzuki had the original Katana, and Yamaha had the GTS.

The first Goldwing was definitely a new beginning for Honda, no one including Honda actually realized how things were going change in the future. Over the years I have been lucky enough to own 5 Goldwings and loved everyone of them, my current 2002 Goldwing has 586,000 mostly trouble free miles on it, when It reaches 600,000 I’m planning to retire it and buy another brandnew Goldwing equipped with DCT.

Wow for 600.000 miles Honda should offer you a new one in exchange of yours like what Toyota used to do with some trucks but for 1 million miles
