i knoq it was an entertainment video, but there are parts to both sides that i think have some validity? I hate paying top dollar for service. I hate it when a dealer charges $100 or so per hour for labor and the mechanic are paid $20 some per hour. Thats just bullshit. Flatrate, forget it, i will pay for how long the person works on my vehicle, not how long some book says, when the mechanic can usually do it in half the time.
I work in the automotive / Trucking industry on the parts and service side and it is all blown to hell. Coming from an OEM dealer, yes mechanics are "factory trained with all of the tools", but all too often these guys are still parts changers when trying to figure out what is wrong. Other shops without factory training can test problems the same way, but for tens of dollars cheaper per hour!!! .
I have in the past had a Nissan dealer diagnose the problem for one hour labor, tell me what part is bad, then I will unbolt it and bolt the new one back on. Nissan wanted over $100 for the TPS sensor, when i went to NAPA, it was $50 and on the part it said Nissan!!! Go F'ing figure!!!
