Re: The BIG COLORADO 2013 summer gathering !

My wife and I will be in Colorado Springs for my Army reunion in mid-June. We'll be in the toy hauler with Crusher, so the timing may just be right.

On a side note, I'm planning to lead a day ride for my Army buddies with the idea in mind of seeing as much of the beauty of Colorado as we can on a loop from the Springs. If anyone has any ideas, shoot me a PM.

This has been talked about in other post. I think its a good time to start talking about putting on a ride somewhere in Colorado. I myself would really like to go to Alaska summer 2013, but the time away from work is just a killer at this time. My thoughts are to spend a week or two doing a loop of New Mexico , Utah , Colorado. I would like to help & take part in putting together a gathering for the forum, open to all adventure bikes. Lets start this tread talking about getting as many Super Tenere riders together as we can for gathering. I personally will be camping most of the time. And I don't plan on camping in a hotel parking lot.. lol Im sure if we can put together a "CCOM" ( Central Colorado Owners Meeting ) I can get sponsors to help the event be even better...
Lets start talking about it and see who has interest in showing up. Or who might be interested in helping put it all on.................
IMOP, if there where 20+ bikes that made it up to the Yukon and Alaska im sure we can get way more a bit closer to home. A few guys on this board, including my self attended many of the "EOM" (Eastern Owners Meeting - held on the East coast every year) events for the Yamaha FJR. It was a GREAT time. I would really enjoy having that same style event in an area we can use our Adventure bikes. It would also be centrally located for all to come and and enjoy the event. I look forward to talking to everyone in this thread ! Lets see if we can make this a big success ! ~ Jaxon

The Rockies have been calling me all year. I'm VERY interested in a Tenere meet there.

I don't know the area at all. What's a good Base Camp in central Colorado for a few dozen riders?

...I have ridden much of CO in years past. It's a rarity that i didn't get there this summer.
(*of course, picking up and leaving Iowa for Indiana adds around 600+ miles, so there is a reason*)
Anyhow - I'd be up for more info - especially the where and when.

My $.02 = Gunnison is a perfect place to base out of. They have a KOA there with wonderful showers, camp/tent sites galore, and cabins for those that want beds. Gunny has been a fav haunt for many years.

It opens for day runs to Delores Canyon, Ouray, Telluride, Black Canyon, Creed...on and on.

Count me as a maybe...But I'll be definitely ready to do something by then.!!

Gunnison is a good choice and is one of the western slope locations we are considering for our annual CoSTOC gathering as well. June is good for Colorado, but may be in conflict with another event that I'm considering. Actually, I'm kinda looking for an excuse to NOT go to the other event so June may be the perfect time!!!

I agree 100%. Is is a lot cooler up in the mountains in mid summer as I imagine it would be-?
Sounds like a great place to meet at least for this West Coast rider, Colorado that is.

Depends on what you mean by heat, considering almost no humidity and average temps of around 85F in the mountains, with likely afternoon rain

It's not hot here in the summer

Perfect weather for a mesh jacket with a waterproof liner.

I'm jazzed already! Let's get some dates set so I can make reservations. Just don't make it June 18-23 because that's my Army reunion.

Seems only right if the first rally was in Canada the next one should be south of the border.
Colorado sounds fantastic. ::001::

Perfect-!!
Gunnison sounds and looks great - on a map at least. I have heard Crested Butte is very nice.
Sounds great. I guess I was thinking down out of the mountains and foothills it would be hot but then the roads would be straight and that's not good now is it.

I've been planning in my mind a trip to Glacier finally for 2013. I think I can postpone that another year. I've already not been able to get there three times, what's wrong with 2014...
There's a rallye coming to Bend in late August I'd like to do, but I'm open.
