What is that gigantic box that sits between the two GPS units?
Radar detector box, there's a passport radar detector in there and it's locked :D

Never seen one like that. Might be, but if proven that a rider exceeds speed limits (within reason) it would result in a DNF. Besides many provinces and one state that I know of outlaw radar detectors.
edit ... guess I was wrong on that assumption.

Re: The BIG COLORADO 2013 summer gathering !

Yeah, sorry we didn't connect. It would have been great to have more peeps along for the ride.

As far as the roads went, they dried out rather quickly after the storm passed. Probably waited about an hour and a half for things to get ridable again. I know people ride the BDR solo all the time, (I rode parts of the UTBDR solo as well), but I can't help but think you made the right choice albeit a tough one. If everything goes perfectly, then it's obviously no problem, but one little mishap and it could change the entire dynamic and you'd be glad to have assistance.

That meal looks frikken awesome though, so I'm sure you don't feel too bad about jettisoning the route. ;-)

Thanks Emgee i did hate to abort but i got about half of it ridden and its not going anywhere. I really like the backcountry rides the feeling of remoteness. I think eventually i'll get a WR or something similar and some soft luggage. Something much easier for me to pick up. There are some really good rides being put together for us to enjoy. The big 10 is not going anywhere it just needs a little brother. I'm looking foward to you and Limeys pictures. And yes i do eat well when my wife is not around to tell me i shouldn't eat that ;D

That's an awesome prize!! Thanks posting up the pics. I'm researching new gear and Klim is on the short list (either Latitude or Traverse). Let us know if you find any shortcomings. We know the price won't be one of them. ;)

I won a 30% discount card for the Adventure bike kit from Baja Designs at the gathering. Got around to ordering recently and received it the other day. Its an impressive looking piece can't wait to get it hooked up. Baja Designs where great to deal with and interested to hear about the number of bikes and riders who made it. Thanks to Jaxon and Karson again for their hard work. Looking forward to what they come up with for next year.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but, I am probably going to do that a few times over the winter, sooo...

This thread really messed with my head and also helped to get me over the short bit of buyers remorse, that moment when you write the check and wonder why? I was working on getting the 2012 right before this rally happened and had a wild hair that I would try to attend. Only a couple weeks notice prior to the event seemed a little daunting and a long ride, for me at that time anyway. You see, I used to live in Durango and then Farmington, NM and this was my normal weekend riding back in the day. I had the Seca 750 and then the Seca 900. I wasn't taking either off road, but, hit all the pavement around the area and covered all those trails in the little s10....Chevy Truck. How's that for Irony!? I had some great spots I really enjoyed and that ride on the bike from Durango to Ouray was a Lunch run often on weekends. Back then it was listed as one of the top ten motorcycle rides in the country and I was hitting it regularly!! I was living vicariously through all your posts and really was jealous/envious of all the stories. Now I have to figure out how and when to get back out there with the bike. I know this forum will cause me to spend money on farkles, but, this also got me dialed in on a future trip. How many years between repeat visits to popular annual gatherings?? I am putting in the reservation now for the next Ouray Rally! See you all then!
