Crap- I forgot how to 'edit' a post. (NOT like riding a bike!)
Just wanted to give a shout out to the el-supremo> Venture for creating this dedicated 700 forum. That.....is seeing the big picture and planning ahead. Cudos
Nice acknowledgement -

I know that Venture went to a LOT of personal effort and time to set up the T700 forum, basing it in what has worked here for the 1200.
Please do use it.

Well earned.
Looks like the Using part is about carved in stone......
Just got back from putting a deposit down on the #2 T7 to be sold by my local dealer. #1 was sitting on the showroom floor lookin mighty nice, awaiting its owner to arrive. It was the red/white livery. I can wait another couple of weeks to get Back in Black.
#1 had arrived with the Rally kit, and for whatever reason, the buyer didn't want it. I was asked about it and gave the go ahead to put it back for my unit. The plot is getting as thick as the suspense- so much that Gomez Adams would approve. o_O
THERE is that elusive 'edit' tab. (key 'aaaalelujah!... aaaaalelujah!')
After getting to borrow somebody else's bike for a sit down & get acquainted session, I believe this is the right choice. Going will tell all, of course. For a narrow looking seat, its more comfy then I figured, which= more ride time. If this thing pans out as good as I expect, mammy-yammy will have come very close to hitting a grand slam and price wise, a world beater.

That's a hell of an endorsement. I do believe he has an actual iron butt. I do find myself wondering why Yamaha used the the Gen 1 T-12 turn signals. As modern as the rest of the bike looks, why wouldn't they use the current, Gen 2, signals?
Yamaha needs to get rid of the existing inventory, because we don't crash and destroy our lights enough !!

It's definitely a T-7, but why the cammo? Current picture, or one from a couple years ago.

Hmmmm, bigger tank on a dirt bike. Seems counterproductive to put it up high, instead of down low like the KTM. . . . to me anyway. I would have thought the T12 would be a better candidate for a larger fuel tank. Kinda like Eric's. Considering that the T12 was designed for long distance. (not that I would want to stay in the saddle for that long)

The T7 side box hardware on the Yamaha web site shows to be $500; twice what the T12 hardware costs.

I would absolutely consider trading my super ten on a touring version of the t7...its the only bike on the market that could maybe draw me away from the biggest dirtbike in the world.

Thoughts on my T7 ……..

So, I was kinda "forced" into buying this bike after blowing up my KTM 640 Adventure out in the back woods of Wyoming. Had my eye on the T7's but this forced my had AND (long story) I been given the opportunity to ride a T7 400miles in mixed conditions. A buddy knew where a new one was hiding in the back of a dealership across the state so I called them up and took it off their hands. Did about 2000 miles end of last summer and fall before the winter caught up to me

- This bike is 100 plus pounds heavier than my 640 - but it feels lighter when you are riding the wench. Balance is great.
- If the bike takes a nap or you need to get off and drag the bike around on the trail - Yea, you'll know about those 100plus pounds
- Power is very linear
- I like the Ergonomics but that's personal from one rider to another; standing on the trail is just fine
- Wind protection is OK. Im sensitive to buffeting on the highway and there is none
- Range is on the low side; you'll want to carry extra fuel to make the 240-260 mile mark
- Gauges are stellar
- Suspension. I like it as it is but I rarely get crazy about suspension and flog it the way it is

Spending the winter throwing different bits and parts on it; we'll see how it treats me this Spring

If you want more distance on the T7 why not install the Camel ADV tank thats in the rear? It seems it would be better balanced than a big tank up top.

Why would one need more distance? or aren't there so many gas stations in the US. I am never more than 20km from a gas station. The T7 isn't meant to be a touring bike right?

It deffo needs a bigger tank as it has long legs.

On some routes and trails - especially the Western routes away from it all - there's an easy 250-275 between gas stops. The 200ish range sneaks up on you really fast.

Tiger is right about not carrying that gas up high in a big old tank; I think that's why the tall 640 was kinda awkward on the trail with that 6+ gallon tank.
