I am new to the forum, and I just bought a 2015 Super Tenere. I am getting it sorted out for touring and I have been looking at seats. We do some 600 - 700 mile days. I have never owned a Russell Day Long, because, from what I understand they are going to increase the seat height and I just don't want to fight with that (I have a 30" inseam). All that said, I have not totally ruled out a Day Long. I need to call and talk to them.

Anyway, back to my topic, I was on a group ride last week with Two Wheeled Texans and met a guy with a 650 V-Strom and he had a seat reworked by Terry Adcox. His seats get some good reviews on the Strom Trooper forum. I called and spoke with him. He is a very nice guy and is a rider himself. In fact he owned a Kawasaki/Suzuki dealership for a long time. He seems very knowledgeable and his prices seem very reasonable ($250 plus shipping). This is a link to his website: http://www.terryscustomseats.com/

I am interested in hearing if anyone has any experience with his seats, or any other helpful seat information.

Looks like he's been doing seats for a while, but I've never heard of him before. I do LD riding and have been in the long distance community since '02 and Terry's name hasn't popped up for seats. That doesn't mean it worn't work well for your needs, just that he's not been talked about among the community doing 1000 mile plus days.

I have had two Russell Day Long seats, both with the heavy weight option for riders over 225 lbs. I tried another good custom seat maker for the Super Ten, but it couldn't hold up for my 260 lb weight, being all foam and no other support for the wings. I sold it at a significant loss and ordered another RDL, which has worked very well and I now have about 50k on.

If you're over 225, you may not find an all foam seat will support you over the longer day rides. If you're under that, Terry might be a very good solution for your needs. If you go with his seat, please do report back when you have your custom seat, and again after breaking it in and doing some longer days.

Wow, that is a great price.

Haven't heard of the guy, but that really doesn't mean a lot. There are a number of independents who will do custom seats. You're doing the right thing in trying to find other owners as how happy that seat guy makes his customers is all that matters.

I had Terry Adcox make me a seat for my last bike, a 2012 Vstrom 650. It was excellent. I did an 8-day, 3200 mile (solo) ride to Nova Scotia on that bike and the seat was very comfortable.

Looks like he makes nice seats.

BTW, regarding the RDL seats. I had one made last year and yes, it did raise the seat height, which I didn't care for. They do offer 2 free rebuilds and if you still don't like it, they will buy it back. But, I had the chance to ride a forum member. William42's seat and it was much better and didn't have that height problem. A call to RDL and they told me that William's seat was the sport version. I sent mine back for a free update to the sport version and it is perfect for me. Seat height is no problem, it is very comfortable for all day rides and doesn't look as bad as the taller version, in my opinion, at least. Since owning my first S10 in July, 2011 to my present 14 ES I have had Sargent recover and repad my stock seat (not too bad) tried their World Sport seat (too hard), Corbin (squashed my nuts) had Laam seats on my 12 and 14 (very nice) and finally the RDL sport (ah, perfect).

Good to know Fred...I'm thinking about sending mine to be done.
Hi Joe,

I haven't been watching this year, but RDL typically announces a 1 week period to place orders at a discount. Last year it was about this time, but may have been a bit earlier and that is when I ordered mine. There should be a thread on adv about it.

Thanks Fred. I'm not seeing anything on Adv but I might be looking in the wrong spot. I figured the vendor and flea market areas would be the spot.

*EDIT* found it. Apparently business is brisk and there will be no discount this year.

Received my Adcox seat and it is a definite improvement over stock, probably have about 800 miles on it and feel like it's just now breaking in, I'm 5'9", 210lbs and 30" inseam. It's better for me on high setting, can still touch, balls of my feet. Good guy and good product!

I had him make me a seat for my first Strom, the seat and me didn't meld (not his fault) but my wife loved her seat and made our week long trip in Maine 1800+ miles possible. He is a stand up guy and if I decided to have another seat made he'll be my first call.
