Hi there,

I am looking for a one person tent that can fit inside the OEM side pannier. most of the tents that I have seen got a 19.4 inch poles which might not make it possible to store it. I don't want to attach it on my rear seat as I want to keep a clean set up.

thank you so much!

its about the pole lengths .... a 2 person tent is more likely to have shorter poles than a 3 or 4 ... every brand is different . personally a one person tent is just miserable as in no room inside for anything but you. I would do nothing less than a 2 person.

fully agree. the current one I have is from decathlon for 2 persons (https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/camping-tent-mh100-2-person/_/R-p-303295) and it is fine except when it comes to storage. I was under the impression that I can sacrifice the space for 2 persons and get a more compact one that I can store...

Check out Big Agnes products. They have "bikepacking" versions of some tents that have short poles and stuff sacks made for strapping on. Pricey though.

Another option if you have time and patience is DIY. Buy extra ferrules, cut your poles in half, glue on ferrules and then re-string the poles.

When I was searching for much the same thing about 5 years ago, I wanted three things:

* Wanted Aluminum Poles.
* Needed them to fit "inside" the side-cases.
* Didn't cost a small fortune.......

I'm not sure what brands are available to you over where you live, but my search ultimately led me to the "Kelty" brand.
Quite a few of their Tents had poles that would break-down small enough to fit inside the hard cases. (mine fold down to 14-inches. 35.5 centimeters long)
They are decent-quality tents, that aren't too expensive.
I happened to find a "last-year's discontinued model" on clearance for pretty cheap when I bought mine.
Their customer-service is great too. I contacted them about a broken plastic end that fits into the poles (my own fault it broke), and they sent me a handful of metal replacement ones free of charge.

Anyway, they are a decent choice for ones that will fit completely in a side-case.

This is the newest version of the "Trail Ridge" that I have.

Been using it for 5 seasons now, and it is pretty durable. Nothing has ripped or broken on it (except for that one plastic pole-end).
The only thing I would complain about is the cheap tent-stakes that came with it. They claim they are made from an alloy called "Nobendium", but in the hard earth we have out here in the western US I bent most of them pretty easily.
I've since upgraded to better tent-stakes a couple years ago, and have been fine ever since!

Pics from a trip.
thanks. I thought may be it is more cost efficient to keep the one I already have (for which I have a matching inflatable bed and other accessories) and just get the alum poles that fit in the side case. thanks once again

they look awesome indeed. unfortunately it is not available in my neck of the woods. I kept the one I already have and ended up ordering the smaller poles..
thanks a lot for your suggestion!

If you find a tent you like, but the length of the poles will make it impossible to fit the tent into the pannier, you could always look at this alternate solution:

They sell the components to make your own tent poles, which you can cut to whatever length you need. You can figure out what maximum length pole will fit into your pannier, then you can make your own custom tent poles out of that length that'll be the same overall length as the ones that came with whatever tent you buy. That way, you won't be limited to tent choices based just on the pole length.
