I just got done reading an ADV thread 17 pages of BMW 800GS problems, I realized that I had not heard a complaint about a S10 breaking down. How about it you lucky guys that already have one, does any thing break on a Yamaha?

The bike itself its bullet proof till now. And some of them already have been under serious abuse.

But yeah, there are problems. Are they serious or even often? I don't think so.

I had problems with the blinkers covers (the orange things).

There are two solutions:
- Super glue
- Replace them under warranty, which I did.

And the top case base could crack letting your top case go at high speeds. But Yamaha already solved the problem and the recall has been placed for a few months now. I guess it will not be a problem when it arrives in the US and Canada,

Also, it seems there is a problem (maybe) which was noticed on the presentation travel. Read here -> http://rideforlife.super-tenere.com/ In one of the falls the panniers rack broke the pannier support or something.

Also the panniers locks SUCK BIG TIME. Its easy to brake your keys opening them. Caution is required to open the Yamaha panniers.

That's what I remember

i would only warn to make sure you are comfy adjusting speed for this bike more than any sport bike when hitting the curves pretty hard. It is amazing even how one tire from another leaned over to the peg feelers how one tire will have chicken strips on it, and some do not at this point.

3 Pannier racks. Fixed. Will be the new redesigned unit one for any S10's made after last month.

A couple of fans pushed through radiators (Big spills on Rocks). Just check it if you have a spill on that side and bend the fan bracket back out.

1 yellow rear shock.

A few loose spokes after bashin' the poor things senseless and bending rims.

Spokes can lose plating, YAMAHA replaces them under warranty. (that will be fixed as well)

And that all folks!!

The standard boxes are not too good in a fall and can't take a 270Kg falling on them at speed. They break the mounts off the cases but the actuall cases seem to survive.

Cheers
Graham

Still no problems with mine. I'm surprised at RomKnight's comment regarding the indicator lenses. These are the standard units that are used on many of the current Yamaha range ... I've never had an issue with them. Must be a dodgy batch. No evidence of the spoke plating issue ... yet. The locks on the boxes are a bit flakey but once you know what's going on it's all OK. Lube up all moving parts and with positive and considered key use, they work fine. Shouldn't be that flimsy I agree but if that's all that's wrong for now I'm happy enough.

Do use your rights and the warranty to get things sorted quickly ... it's the only way to keep the manufacturers focused.

A lot of people are complaining about the pannier locks and I must admit, it could be better, but you should never break a key trying to open it. The secret is to push down on the lid whilst opening and closing and it works like a dream - no effort at all. When you (or the dealer) install the locks in the panniers, put some loctite on the screws to prevent them from coming loose.

One cautionary note. When using the Tenere in full combat conditions (filtering during rush hour) with the panniers attached, be mindful of where the rear corner of each pannier is relative to the position of car door mirrors ... Mercedes in particular. The panniers are angled forward (lowest point toward the rider). If you grab a handful of front brake the bike dives and the rear end lifts .... hey presto .... dislocated door mirrors. Good game .... people seem to enjoy it as it makes them sound their horns in appreciation ;D ;D

@Swagger

I was kinda frustrated when I look at the lenses since all the back and blinkers was used since 2005 R6 (if I recall this correctly)

I remembered I still had one problem with the right mirror getting that "old effect". Promptly replaced also.

Stock indicators are way below the rest of the bikes spec. Broke the lens off one just brushing past it in the garage. The 660z stockers are far better and more robust (due flexible mounts and stems) . Maybe its a design feature to promote the sale of the LED accessory ones... have to say they do look the dogs .

One of the pannier locks dissapeared after a rideout, I replaced this with the spare and loctited the screws and I have also lost the hero blob off the right side footrest. The bike is absolutely superb, I have a Remus can on order and can't wait for it to arrive.
Regards
Alan

You haven't ... there wasn't one to begin with. We're trying to find out why Yamaha decided not to include this part.

BTW ... Welcome to the forum. What colour do have? What other modifications have you done or are you intending to do?

There will be problems. It is a machine, after all.
Hopefully the motors/transmissions/final drives/bearings will be of a quality to not strand the riders in a remote corner of the world. I expect the S10 to be very well thought out. That's why I ordered one.

I am experiencing the same problem! Looks to be widespread - we all have a bad case of can't-wait-ittis on this side of the pond.

I took my bike to HAGON (the shock absorber people) and took some spokes out (whilst the bike was still on a trailer - brilliant) and they made me some stainless ones up.

Look here for the spoke refit: http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?t=14206&page=7

Yeah seen that ... I've already told Yamaha that if that happens to mine they'll be giving me a new set off wheels.

I decided just to go down the stainless route. I liked them on my BMW and I have a hard life planned for the S10.
I am still waiting for the warranty replacement ones which I may get the nipples chromed.
