Thanks for the info and pictures, Fred. What is your opinion of the side cases?

Now, I have a question to those that already have their Super Tens. I am not sure if the small projection on the sidestand is bent on this bike or not. Moreover, I do not see what the purpose of it is. The way the one is on this bike, if you have the sidestand up and your boot on the peg, it touches this projection and even will move the sidestand a bit. It certainly is not needed to put the sidestand down and I can't see that it would be useful to put it up. At present, my thoughts are that if the USA models are like this, I will take my Dremel and cut the smaller portion of this off, leaving the larger diameter section that the spring is attached to alone. What am I missing here?

Fred,

Funny that you mention that. Having just seen the Super Tenere for the firs time yesterday at the nyc motorcycle show, I had the same thoughts. http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=459.msg6382#msg6382

The two Super Tens on display in new york had the same exact thing. This would leave me to believe that it is standard and not "bent"

I will need to do something about that.

Well, as with most things there are plusses and minuses. The plusses that I can think of is that you only need one key for the ignition and bags. They are well engineered for this application, mount and dismount easily and securly, and have flat bottoms if you want to set one down. A minus for me is that I am not crazy about the looks and I prefer side loading boxes (but could live with top loaders if I used bag liners). I guess another plus in my case, is that as a part time employee, I get my parts for cost + 10%, which is a considerable discount, so I could get these for a great price. On the other hand, my dealer also handles Givi, so I can get a great price on the Trekkers also.

A friend who ordered a Raven was in today and he is sold on the Yamaha boxes, as he says they will fit closer to the bike than after market which will not curve around the exhaust. He plans to paint the silver portions black to better blend in with his Raven bike.

A minus that I heard today is that they don't have a handle on top, so it takes both hands to carry one bag.

So, those are my thoughts. I am not 100% sure which way I will go, but do think these are as good as any and better than some.

Fred, it was nice meeting you today and to put a face to the avatar. I want to thank you again for all your effort with the swag and getting the word out for folks to see the bike at Nihaus. The trek up there was worth it and confirmed my belief that this is a very nice bike! My compliments to Brad for a very nice dealership! Wish I could have stayed longer.

It was nice to meet you also, Todd. Thanks for driving all the way up from Louisville. Also glad that you liked the bike as much as I do. Well, that is an assumption, as I don't know for sure if ANYBODY likes this bike as much as I do. ;) I'll pass on to Brad Niehaus your compliments on his dealership. I think it is first class and the people there are first class and I enjoy lending a hand anytime I have the opportunity.

My FREE SW Motec skid plate arrived yesterday. Since we had a Super Ten on display at my dealer's shop, it presented a good setting to take a few pics. Thanks again to Twisted Throttle for this.

Colorider had asked what tools were in the Super Ten tools kit, so I took them out today for this pic. Alsoa close up of the throttle assembly that might give you some idea of what it would take to fit a Vista Cruise type throttle lock.

One last pic of our display area. We had lots of Super Tenere literature on the table, had the Super Tenere shirts on display, the Yamaha rep was there, we had Super Tenere videos on the big screen, free Super Tenere caps and free pizza. People came from St Louis, MO and Springfield, IL and points in between. Our own Ollie got the Long Distance Award, driving all the way from Louisville, KY.

I played the role of unpaid enthusiastic Super Tenere fanatic and got the world's only Port Authority Waterproof Adventure jacket with embroidered Super Tenere emblem courtesy of Brad Niehaus.

Thanks to all for letting me do a bit of promoting on this great forum.

Fred,
Thanks for the pictures of the tool kit and the throttle assy. I'll try to compare the throttle to my FJR and see how similar they are.

Fred,

Thanks for your thoughts on the OEM bags. I am 99 percent sure that this is what I will buy for my S10. I have been using bag liners on both Honda STs I have had so the opening option isn't a deal breaker either way. I like the looks of the Givis and Trax but as noted they do not integrate as nicely as Yamaha's. Lotecredneck has posted discounted pricing and I will likely buy from him. Next week is the Cleveland show so I will finally have an opportunity to see the bike, I can't wait!

Fred, any count on how many came to see the S10?
I don't think anybody took a headcount, John, but it was a nce crowd. Several were there as soon as we opened and we of course had rush hour at noon when the pizza's arrived. :p

Yes, one guy from St Louis ordered a Raven. We have a few others that are very interested. One good friend of mine put his Triumph Tiger for sale on advrider and will order as soon as it is sold. He has several other bikes and to keep peace in the family will sell the Tiger first. Another regular customer is in the same mindset as me, he has a 08 KLR and a 2010 FJR and enjoys adventure riding on the KLR the most. He says he should put some more miles on the FJR before getting rid of it, but we have agreed to go riding as soon as mine gets here and we will swap rides so he can try it out. I am positive that will convince him.

Niehaus has a very big open house, called Appreciation Days each May. Normally 4,000 to 5,000 riders come in during that three day period. A lot of nationally known vendors come in and we also have demo rides of new Hondas and Yamahas. We are hoping that the Yamaha truck includes the S10 in the demo fleet. If so, that should generate a few sales, as it seems we have seen reports of people ordering after riding them at the Dallas and CA shows in the last few months.
