Better quality and more choices as well with aftermarket add ons.

Hi Vince,

Yes your laptop will fit into either bag. The smaller one has an area 13 1/2 x 16. inside..

The roads cleared up pretty good by the end of the day and the main roads are fine. Hope to see John and Ollie the next couple of days. One of the advrider listers drove in from St Louis today to take a look and ordered a raven.

I cleaned a lot of the Arizona red dust today and gave it a coat of polish. Sure looks sweet now!

Fred, Did you have to take it for a little spin to make sure it still ran after cleaning?

No, I just rode it around the lot Wed evening when it got here after dark. Overnight we got 6+ inches of snow, so we decided that we had better leave it inside. I did volunteer to take it out and do a demo of traction control and ABS. ;D My dealer wisely declined my generous offer as he would get in a heap of trouble with the Yamaha rep if something happened.

Yesterday I did a bit of experimenting to see how the rear rack conversion works. This is the one where you remove the rear seat and end up with a flat area for carrying extra gear. I had seen pics, but wasn't quite sure how it works. The owner's manual mentions this and says that if you want to do this, see your Yamaha dealer. :(

It wasn't all that involved, it turns out. First thing is to remove the front seat so that you can remove two bolts that hold the rear seat. Once you remove the rear seat, you see this.

You then bolt the silver rack back in place, replacing the two longer bolts with two shorter bolts left from removing the plastic thingy.
You then have this nice area to carry your tent, bag, a small cooler of beer, or whatever.

I mentioned that the side covers that must be removed to get to the battery, etc on the right side and the radiator on the left side have neat allen head 1/4 turn fasteners. Today when I removed the seat, I noticed that the proper size allen is stored there, so you can easily get the covers off. This also lets you get to the tool kit, that is stored behind the right side cover.

Now, I have a question to those that already have their Super Tens. I am not sure if the small projection on the sidestand is bent on this bike or not. Moreover, I do not see what the purpose of it is. The way the one is on this bike, if you have the sidestand up and your boot on the peg, it touches this projection and even will move the sidestand a bit. It certainly is not needed to put the sidestand down and I can't see that it would be useful to put it up. At present, my thoughts are that if the USA models are like this, I will take my Dremel and cut the smaller portion of this off, leaving the larger diameter section that the spring is attached to alone. What am I missing here?

Did you by chance take a look at the tool kit? I suppose pretty much standard Yamaha content....

The tang on the side stand looks totally out of place - at least where it bends up toward the foot peg. :question:

Yes, I did look at the tool kit and it was standard, what you would expect. I guess today I could take it out and spread out the tools for a pic so we can all see what is there.

Anything else that you would like a pic of while it is here?

We had talked about the possibility of fitting a Vista Cruise throttle lock and I think it is possible, but might take a bit of work on the throttle tube, if it has a ridge toward the inboard area and the grip may have to be trimmed a bit. I plan to fit ProGrips with Dual Star heating elements underneath on mine and should be able to do that at that time.

That is definitely bent .... It does work as an aid to deploy the sidestand it's just tricky. With practice it's not problem. Stick an expander plate on the bottom of the stand and it's all good. I'd not be cutting it off.

It seemed easier and more natural for me to reach toward the rear of the stand with my boot and put it down. I am talking toward the rear of the bike. That tang is in front of the footpeg and doesn't seem natural or necessary to be reaching there to deploy the stand. To each his own, I suppose, but mine will be shortened with removal of the smaller portion when it gets here. Thanks for the reply that it is bent.

Good info on the Vista Cruise, as I will either install one of them, or (if it will work), the same Madco Sport lock I have on my FJR.
