I am thinking of trading my Honda NC 750x 2015 for a ST1200 first edition with 52000km year is 2010. The thing is beautiful and i look forward tô Ride it.
I have been reading here at the forum a lot of things that i did not knew. So for now i have to ask.... Is it a good bike to use comuting, riding at weekend with wife and luggage ? With 52000km what the main things to BE carefull about the model? Thanks to every One and pardon for my "French" . Congratulations for the great bikea you all have!!!!!!

Welcome from Switzerland ;)
As for the bike, as long as it has had all the services carried out it should be ok, the biggest being the valve check /adjustment at 40'000km, check for a rattle on start up, it is normal and subsides after about 2-5 secs, if it does not then expect to either replace with new cam chain tensioner or manual cam chain tensioner, there are many threads on the subject on here. Also, some have complained about the Gen 1 clutch basket vibes @3k rpm, normal and can live with it or swap out for a new 2014+ version.

Welcome to the forum, I don’t have any idea what traffic is like in Portugal but where I live in the USA the Tenere works great for commuting, it is kind of tall so it might be more challenging to mount and dismount than your Honda, but once mounted it handles great.

Welcome. As far as the mechanics go, listen to Degdaze. As far as being versatile....the bike will do anything you ask of it. You can load it like a mule, ride it like a sport bike, and you don't have to stay on the pavement. My favorite bike ever.

I love to travel taking my wife and luggage. But the NC its limited when fully loaded.....

A very well balanced bike in terms of weight distribution that translates to easy to handle during really slow snarls and feels planted like on rails when doing corners. Great for all kinds of riding except for Super sports type of riding.

There are some recalls for it, so if it could be proven to have been dealt with then that is great.

1. Rear top box rack may crack under load. Replaced with an updated part under recall.
2. Headlamp wiring harness. The connector may melt due to the material they use for the metal connectors. Use something close to brass that expands faster than the H7 stainless steel causing an air gap which induces an electrical arching that causes high heat. I did not have mine changed but mitigated with using LED or if u prefer Halogens, use a ceramic type connector.
3. See Gen 1 recall thread on the wiring harness to the ECU....may not be applicable.

Welcome aboard. This bike excels at just what you asked about, as it is essentially the SUV of motorcycles like a Land Cruiser. Comfy commuter, thow the luggage and wife on for long distance rides, or be like some of us and pull a trailer. Or empty it to become what around here we call TBDBITW - The Biggest Dirt Bike In The World.

I'd love to have it to ride the Picos de Europe!
