Heyup,, I own a tenere, my mate also has one (2014) his bikes only done 14k miles and its rattling pretty bad,two rattles actually,, one is the clutch .Am I correct in saying that centre nut on clutch can come loose? ( his is2014so I'm assuming that's got the upgrade clutch fitted from new?),so I'm intending doing that, but other rattle sounds like cam chain. Are manual adjusters any good. The latest? Cam chain tensioner in UK is £200 ish,,,ouch,,,I have to say that although my tenere has been OK (2012,,25k miles) I'm very disappointed as is my buddy that Yamaha have such faults ,any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance Tommy Tickle

The engine on my 2016 ES rattles rather a lot too, but it seems to be normal. I spotted a manual cam chain tensioner from a UK company on eBay a few weeks back. £30 sounds cheap enough. I'm considering getting one and fitting it over the winter when I do my servicing.

I have a 2013 Gen 1 bike and have the updated basket fitted, which certainly improved the engine rattles/noises, also had the current updated CCT fitted, which made no difference to noise but gave me peace of mind with the potential failure of the earlier CCTs.
Manual CCTs seem to be more popular with owners in the states, with many of them going that route and without issue.
I had my CCT fitted at Alf England's in Bedworth, and well impressed with their overall customer service and the work the undertook.
Unfortunately these engines are noisy regardless of upgrades, just how they are!

It rattles less if you wear earplugs!

Just to give you some comfort, the clutch nut will not just loosen off either, that was an issue with Suzuki VZR1800R's, not the S10 as far I am aware.

Agree.

The nut a tab on it that once tapped into place, stops the nut vibrating loose.

As discussed numerous times, the clutch rattle was in the Gen1 bikes of 2010-2013. It would have a rattle on start which would last more than 8 seconds. Cam chain tensioners in the Gen1 bikes were also replaced in the Gen2 so that rattle ought to fade away in the 2-8 second period after starting. There's now a newer CCT which superceded the earlier Gen2 part. Manual CCTs are available too.

As other mentioned these bikes always sound like a can of rocks, and it gets worse if the bike has a metal skidplate.

When I put my skidplate on. The noise drove me nuts until I put Dynamat inside it. When I removed the skidp[ate to put the dynamat in it. I made a little ride and couldn't beleive how much quieter it was. Ear buds cures my other rattles and tire roar.
