Next month, I am renting a Super Tenere 1200. Would someone be kind enough to tell me which tools exactly I should bring to: a) adjust the shift lever; and b) connect my heated gear wiring harness to the battery terminals. I also intend to temporarily place a cell phone holder on the handlebars - am I correct that there is a 12V cig-lighter plug near the bars? Any other advice for this bike would be greatly appreciated! (I have a late-model GS and Gold-Wing). Thank you all!

You need a 4mm Allen wrench to remove the right panel to access the battery terminals. The battery terminal bolt heads are 10mm. The rod to adjust the height of the shift lever requires a 10mm open end wrench to loosen the jam nuts…..one is reverse thread. There is a 2amp fused cigarette lighter receptacle on the right front of the dash.

I don't know off hand if all of the Super Tenere are like mine, but the adaptor on my bike (2012) is the "hella" or "din" style plug, which means the receptable is a far smaller diameter than your standard cigar/cigarette style lighter plug seen in cars.

Good to know, thank You! I will bring both std and BMW din plugs.

as stated you need a 4mm allen key to remove the right hand mid fairing section to access the battery. The 4mm allen key should be under the riders seat (which comes of with the ignition key) so you shouldn't need to bring a 4mm allen key, but as these are rental bikes there's a good chance the allen key is missing so I would still bring one as they don't weight much or take up much space.

Have fun and let us know how it works. I believe the cigarette lighter plug is turned on and off with the ignition, so you can only power something when the ignition is turned on.
It might depend on the model year or country, but mine is a 2017 ES and the cigarette lighter is a standard plug (NOT a DIN), hope that might help.
