I have been in talks with Tech Spec over them providing a product for our Tenere.

Dean Davis over there has just completed creating the template for this product and has told me that it will be available through their production process within one month, if not sooner.

I have personally used their product (in the "snake skin" pattern) on my BMW K1300GT before and have nothing but the highest of praise for it. I will be purchasing their Tenere kit as soon as it is available.

Here is a link to their website to see what they have/do.

FYI, I have absolutely NO financial interest in Tech Spec. I am just a satisfied customer off theirs and wanted to spread the news that there will be another option out for our steeds in the near future.

Well, that is a real bummer!!!!!! I too have used their product on both my FJR and my KLR and since they did not offer a kit for the SuperT, I just ordered the "general sheets" so that I could cut my own (as I did for my KLR).
:(

They have a cool product. I am sure it will be good.

If you want something more understated but still to protect your paint from scuffs and scratches my guards are available too.

Very nice, I've been watching for something more substantial than the clear film. One thing I really like about the Tiger1050 is how they put plastic/seat all the way up the tank to avoid any scratches and to give you something to cling to when standing up.

I just ordered a set of tank side protectors from Devin (Speedstar). He shipped them out today, with a notification and additional tips for installation. If I have problem, I know I'll be able to call him and he'll stand behind what he's offering to us.

Any protection items of this type will always be purchased (by me), from a fellow rider that owns my model bike and has fit it to his own machine.

Call me "old fashioned", but I've thrown away a "pant load", of money on "copy cat", cheap stuff that turned out to be a total waste of my time and money.

I've always believed in the statement (that we used frequently, to sell against a "low priced", competitor): "We're not the cheapest and we don't want to be".

As a result of that promised and delivered product, we sold Tyson, FoMoCo, GM, Boeing, Cintas, Marriott, Hyatt Regency, Aratex, Lockheed-Grumman/Martin, NASA, etc. The low priced folks just couldn't compete with us because we offered real value.

I don't know Devin (Speedstar), other than from what I know of him from this forum (nor does he know me). I DO know that he's hung with the "long wait", group for this bike, and wants to maintain a long term dedication to us all.

I can appreciate those comments and sentiments but, really, how is it that Tech Spec is somehow the, ""pant load" of money, "copy cat"", and the bad guy here? They are just another supplier of a very high quality product that may or may not appeal to you. It appeals to me and perhaps to others and is only another alternative for us to choose from. Choice imp[roves the breed. They have always "promised and delivered" in the past and are certainly committed to the motorcycling segment. This has always been my experience and the experience of those friends and acquaintances of mine who have chosen this product for themselves.

To help show this commitment, allow me to share this real life story -

Dean called me last week to schedule to get together with me to use my bike as a template. This was subsequent to an email I had sent to Tech Spec offering my bike and offering to deliver/ride my bike to their factory in Minden, NV, approximately 1-1/2 to 2 hours from me. We had a fantastic conversation in which he thanked me for my offer but since he lived not 20 minutes from me he would be happy to arrange a time to come to my house and create the template there instead. This was to be after Dean's normal business hours and over the weekend. This means time away from his hobbies, his family, his personal time. Due to MY scheduling/work conflicts I could not meet with him so he called me back and let me know that he went to Roseville Yamaha and used the owner's bike to create the template as "Tech Spec did not want to delay getting their product out to those that they support and those that support them." He relayed the information I have already posted concerning their timeline on production, etc.

To me, Tech Spec is interested in, "maintaining a long term dedication to us all." That is not to say that any other supplier isn't but I hope it shows that Tech Spec is a company willing to promise, deliver, and dedicate themselves to those who made them successful.

It is not my intention to create a conflict because of another supplier's option for a similar product. Techspec makes great stuff and if you like the look and feel of their part it is a great option to have.

I just want my fellow Super Tenere owners to know of my option as well.
My parts are made with a high-end, Aerospace Urethane film and go on easily and can be removed easily.
They are completely clear so you see whatever color paint you have.
They are very durable and offer scratch and scuff protection on these vulnerable areas.
They also have a high coefficient of friction so they do offer better grip than the painted surface.

I am a fellow owner and have offered similar parts for whatever bike I have, V-Strom, KTM, Buell and now the Super Tenere.

Competition and options are good. Thanks for the support guys!

The film that Devin is selling and the Tech Spec pads are two different products, IMHO. The Tech Spec has more of a "performance" appeal in that it is functional by being grippy for your knees when you're against the tank. The clear film is more of a cosmetic protectant.

Two different products for different folks who will choose based on their own preferences. personally, I want the grippy pads that Tech Spec offers. Others may not like that and just go for the paint protector of the clear film. Different strokes for different folks.

I have not used this product but have seen it and always thought they looked really good. As for the prices I am seeing on them they are inline and little less than OEM protecters. I might get these for my ST. I have been bouncing around the sheets that only protect the paint but I like to have something that is grippy so when I am standing I will stick to it.

Another feature of the Tech PSec I really like is their re-usability. Take them off and re-apply if needed. I have never had to do this but it is an included feature of the product.

That's great - except for me since I got antsy and ordered the general sheets cuz I didn't think they would do a custom for the SuperT. I cut/installed mine today. Looks good, IMHO - but I'm sure the custom ones will be even better!!!

:)

....without pics......

Ya know, it's gonna be fun just to see what you did in comparison to what Tech Spec designed.

I am getting the snake skin pattern. Which one did you use?

I'll snap a picture tomorrow of mine. Actually, I fudged a bit and used a template of Devin's design (thanks again Devin) and modified it a bit since the general sheets are not large enough to do the full design - but still adequate protection.

I had snake skin on my FJR and KLR, but this time decided to try the High Fusion as it is thinner and little easier to cut to size/shape.

The kit I saw mentioned by Tech Spec was for the right/left sides of the tank only. I was hoping for a kit to cover all 3 sides. What are you planning for the back of the tank?

Spec Tech as not cut a Center Guard for the Super Tenere but they do have the Side Guard set but you need to call them. The Center Guard for the Super Tenere really needs to be custom since it is only 4.25" wide top and 4" wide bottom. I think I want a Desert Guy for the Center Guard and will get the Side Guards to help me stop sliding forward during braking.

Placed an order this morning. They stated the set is only the right/left sides. Before I telephoned, I looked over the tank pad protectors and got an idea of what was offered. Ordered the #3 cut, and hope it works out. I tried a Desert Guy I got from ~TOBASCO~, but I fumbled the placement. :( I wanted to try something a little thicker this time.
