2013 gen 1. This is what my tank looked like when I pulled the rubber edge off of it. I took this picture after I sanded it. It was rusty as hell. IMG_4757.JPGIMG_4757.JPG

Thanks for the heads up. Stored in a garage or more out in the open? I've been spoiled living in the desert, but much more moisture in the air here in MS.

As in the past with these rust posts, these surface rust things anything to worry of? My 1997 F350 Ford roof is all rust, all cosmetics. I don't much worry of rain coming through the top of the cab at this point.

Found similar rust along the bottom edge of those tank seams on my 13 when i was prepping for the paintwork to go from grey to blue last fall. I had a look at Yamahas less than suitable choice for a trim design and added a couple of small 1/8 inch drain holes on the lowest point of the side trims to hopefully stop water from laying in there.

Pic. taken into an inspection mirror looking to the underside of the tank trim.

Just wait until July/August when they add some heat to that moisture. Walk to the mail box and come back in soaked. !!!

I hear you. I caught the end of Summer here last Sept. 90% humidity with 90F plus days was sweat city. Not my first time in the humidity. It's different, but living in 110F to 116F all summer in So. UT was just as bad in a different way. Hit 100F in April and it lasted all the way to Sept. You get used to it and adapt/acclimatize. Here it's just getting soaked in sweat and nothing dries out as fast that is different.

Humidity is the root of all evil. I lived in the northern tip of AZ; Page. Page and the DFW area often have the same AIR temperature, but the heat index will be 15* apart. Drier is WAY better.

There goes another quick recon project for me to do next weekend.
Saturday morning I took the trim strips off my '13 S10's white fuel tank and there was a smattering of orange rust stains at the low points of the tank's seams that luckily were just on the surface. Cleaned it off with some hot water on a microfiber, cleaned out the inside of the trim strips, threw some wax on the tank seam popped the trim back on and called it a successful mission with no bad surprises.

Under mine it looks kinda ruff too. Not rusting yet. The paint job it pitiful underneath.I'm gonna keep mine acfed too. I got several utility trailers. They look shiney till you look under them. Solid rust.

I took my trim off while I was doing a tire change. Everything looked great. Did an acf50 treatment. Bought my bike from a couple that traveled Europe for most of a year for their honeymoon. I'm sure that it sat outdoors for most of its life but everything looked great.
