9/11. Wow … 13 years now. I was on the Yukon River doing salmon counts, when a giant jetliner circled Whitehorse, accompanied by two U. S. fighter jets. They thought there was a hijacking in progress, but turned out to be a language miscommunication. We didn't know until much later what was going on. Seems like yesterday.

Anyway, I guess it's a good time to just take a moment and think about all those folks and their families.

Let's be extra kind to each other today, and let's be careful out there. R. ::008::

I was at LAX to pick up a colleague of mine that morning; fortunately he was coming from Phoenix and not the east coast. I was shooed out of the pick up area by armed police, and went to one of the hotels on Century Blvd my employer had a contract with, since I knew the basement was a bomb shelter. I didn't really know what was going on until I was able to see the news (I really don't listen to the radio, especially morning shows), and I remember thinking this felt like a Tom Clancy novel...

To the families who lost loved ones that day, you will not be forgotten....and to our country which was severely wounded that day, I believe in a better tomorrow....

I was living in Rhinebeck, NY about 60 miles north of NYC, many commuters from the area rode the train to/from NYC daily. Seems everyone up there personally knew someone that was lost that tragic day.

John Levi was a NYC Port Authority P O, had a vacation home in the area and would come up almost every week end to ride his H-D and to be with his children and ex-wife. They where engaged and planning to marry again. We often rode together, ate together, and shared a beer. John's station was in a train tunnel one block from the WTC. He had gotten off duty that morning just before the 1st plane crash and as he was changing into his civilian cloths the emergency call went out the crashed occurred and an emergency call went out. He grabbed his rescue gear and was last seen running through the tunnel toward the WTC. He was a quite, kind, and generous man..... and an OUTSTANDING father.

RIP John: http://www.odmp.org/officer/15795-police-officer-john-levi

Let us not forget those brave man and women that lost their life that day, or those who sacrifice and continue to defend our nation against evils that would commit such despicable acts.
