What kind of issues have you had with the plate?
The design isn't strong enough to prevent it from getting bent and pushed backwards towards the rear wheel when going over (and hitting) high clearance obstacles. The effect is that the oil filter now sticks out through the access hole (unprotected), the holes for removing the drain plugs don't line up with the drain plugs, and the right rear mount has bent the frame tab which is shared by the exhaust pipe near the cat. It's fine for protecting the engine from rocks thrown up by the front wheel. Unfortunately I can't get good pics of the damage right now because the engine is out of the frame.

I have personally met with the owner of T-Rex racing. He is a good person and he cares. Let him know.
I gave T-Rex the opportunity to make it right. After many emails which went from them completely denying the claim as normal wear and tear, then these were said to be rock chips and not covered to where they finally agreed to provide a small discount which barely covered the cost of my fuel to drop the bars off at the paint shop to have them repaired.

They are very aware I feel this was not adequate but it was all they felt they should do and that management didn’t even want to do that little for me.

They may be good people but their refusal to first acknowledge their quality issues, then make BS excuses and then to provide only a small amount of compensation IMO make the company one I choose not to deal with ever again.

I based my decision to buy the T-Rex crash bars and skid plate based largely on reviews and info provided by this community. I think the community deserves to hear all the good along with the not so good.

In the end all I can hope for now is that for an extra $200 spent I will end up with the product I originally thought I had purchased.

I appreciate all the responses, both good and not so good. I made my decision to buy these bars and skid plate based on how I plan to use them. They are mostly there for the piece of mind from a low speed fall or road/light trail debris hitting the underside. I will probably never on purpose try to hop this bike over anything like logs or large rocks. That being said, comparing them side by side with my original HEED crash bars, the powder coat is nowhere near as good in the quality dept. with the T-rex.
Only time will tell on both powdercoat and weld craftsmanship. Still super stoked and can't wait to do the install. Just need to source new plugs and get those installed before putting the bike back together. Also trying to find something to use as a stud in place of the 2 existing engine bolts. The M12 x 1.25 is a hard size to find.

I was able to find that size hex head bolt at my local ace hardware. If you cant find a stud, just use a long bolt and cut the head off with a hacksaw. Run a nut over the cut end to clean up the threads before install.

When it comes down to T-Rex or ACD, what is the common decision of winner?

Mine came with a alt rider skid plate. For the price trex is way cheaper. The skid plates amd engine guards are not compatible between the 2 becouse of different mounting points from what i can tell. Id go with trex becouse of the price. From the research ive done they would be equal in a crash but the trex has more coverage. Ive heard paint and weld quality goes to altrider. I can do a oil change on the alrider skid plate with out removing it but its very close. If i switched oil filters i may need to remove it. I dont own a trex skid plate but it looks like they have a removable cover for the oil filter which would make it better. Ive seen on the forum that someone went with the trex option and the weld wasnt super clean it had some rust and paint chipped off. Granted that could be from shipping.. it sounded like trex was no help with the matter.

Id still go with trex i think its over a 500 dollar savings. For that much you coukd have it painted any color you want twice..

Installed T-Rex crashbars and Skidplate today, the instructions weren’t to bad but I needed quite a few more wrenches than the instructions indicated. Will probably take it for a test ride tomorrow and afterwards remove a bunch of the fasteners and apply some blue Lock Tight . So far the powder coat looks fine to me.

Do you have any AUX lighting?

currently no auxiliary lighting on my Tenere but I have been considering adding some. I do have a set of LED headlight bulbs but I’m curious how long the stock halogen bulbs might last so haven’t installed the LED’s yet.
